Hiking tours to West-Altay reserve in Kazakhstan.

“The area of our trekking is in the Western Altai, it consists of several mountain ranges: Koksuysky, Kholzun and Ivanovsky. The height of these ranges is 2,200 to 2,500 meters above sea level. From these ranges, Ubinsky from 1800 to 2200 meters above sea level, Ivanovsky to 2800 meters above sea level, Ulbinsky from 1800 to 2200 meters above sea level, which serve as a watershed between the Belaya Uba, Ulba and Bukhtarma rivers, depart in a southwestern direction. The highest mountain of the Western Altai is Vysheivanovsky Belok 2778 meters above sea level”

Day 1. Almaty.
Arrival in the city of Almaty. Meeting at the airport, transfer to the hotel. Accommodation, rest. Breakfast. City tour: a visit to the park 28 Panfilov, the Cathedral, the Museum of Musical Instruments, the National Museum, the Medeo gorge, the Republic Square (4 hours). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2. Almaty - Ust-Kamenogorsk - Ridder (140 km, 3.5 hours).
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport, departure by flight KS-301 at 7.05 to Ust-Kamenogorsk. Arrival at the airport, transfer to Ridder town (140 km). Arrival in Ridder, transfer to hotel, accommodation, lunch. The history of the city of Ridder begins in 1786. During the reign of Catherine II, in May 1786, 9 search expeditions were sent to Altai, one of which was headed by the 27-year-old mountain officer Philip Ridder. On May 31, 1786, he discovered the richest deposit containing gold, silver, polymetals. On February 6, 1941, the town of Ridder was renamed Leninogorsk. On June 28, 2002, the historical name of Ridder was returned to the city of Leninogorsk.
After lunch, a visit to the local history museum, the museum has a rich history of the town, and the funds include more than 28 thousand exhibits. Visiting the museum of the zinc plant, there are very interesting exhibits and materials about the history of the zinc mine.
Visit to the Altai Botanical Garden, which began its work in 1935.

Day 3. Ridder - Lineisky Pass - Chernaya Uba River - Koksinsky Cordon - highland swamp Gulbishche – Lineisky Poles (Stone Fairy Tale) - Barsuk tourist Camp (68 + 8 = 76 km, 3.5 hours). 
Breakfast. Transfer: Ridder - Lineysky pass - Koksinsky cordon (68 km). Our path from Ridder leads along the road grader eastward to the border with the Russian Federation. We are passing a turn to the village of Poperechnoye, which is 4 kilometers from the road. We pass the tourist bases “Berezovka”, “Seryi Lug”, “Klimovka-Gemma”, which are located to the right of the road, also bypassing two cordon rangers of the West Altai Nature Reserve “Belaya Uba” and “Black Uba”. Arriving in the vicinity of the cordon "Koksinsky", preparing for trekking.
Hiking: the environs of the Koksinsky cordon - Sukhoi Stream, 1,710 meters above sea level (2 km, 1 hour). Lunch on the way. Rest by the stream. Just below the ford across the Sukhoi stream is a small picturesque waterfall.
Hiking: Sukhoi stream - Bolotny stream 1765 meters above sea level (2 km, 1 hour). Relaxation.
Hiking: Bolotniy stream – highland swamp Gulbishche 1870 meters above sea level - valley Lineisky poles - Barsuk tourist camp (4 km).
Arrival at the valley Lineisky poles (Stone Fairy Tale), pitch up a tent, dinner and overnight in the tent.
Day 4. Tourist Camp “Barsuk” – valley Lineisky poles - tourist Camp “Barsuk” (10 km).
Breakfast. Radial hiking in the environs of the tourist Camp "Barsuk" and valley Lineisky poles. In the central part of the valley  Lineisky poles are the highest rocky outcrops from 12 to 35 meters. This is the most unique and attractive natural site not only in the West Altai Nature Reserve, but also in the entire Kazakhstan Altai, widely known far beyond Kazakhstan.
The length of the tract from north to south is 2 kilometers 500 meters and from east to west the tract stretches for 3 kilometers. The area of ​​the valley line popes is 750 hectares. Return to the tourist Camp, lunch, dinner and overnight in the tents.
Day 5. Tourist Camp "Barsuk" - Kholzun Lakes (7 km + 7 km = 14 km).
Breakfast. Radial hiking on the lake Kholzun. Hiking: tourist Camp "Barsuk" - highland swamp "Gulbishche" - First Holzun Lake 1950 meters above sea level (6 km). This lake is located on the north side of the western spur, which departs from the Holzun ridge.
The lake is small, its length is only 55 meters and width is 20 meters. Over the lake, until the end of July, a huge, beautiful snowfield hangs, which is reflected in the lake and which feeds the water of the first lake Holzun. Walk around the First Lake.
Hiking: First Kholzun Lake - Second Kholzun Lake 2050 meters above sea level (350 meters). On the western rocky slope we ascend to the terrace of the Second Lake Kholzun. The length of this lake is 251 meters, the maximum width of 171 meters. In the northwestern part of the lake flows a small river, which is the left tributary of the Barsuk River. In the eastern part of the lake flows a stream, which flows from the Third Lake Holzun. Walk around the Second Lake.
Hiking: Second Lake Kholzun - Third Lake Kholzun 2140 meters above sea level (500 meters). We go around the Second Lake along its north-western part, wade into a small river flowing from the lake, and go up to the terrace of the Third Lake Holzun. The lake has a length of 345 meters and a maximum width of 231 meters.
From the south-west side above the lake rises a latitudinal spur with heights of 2,200 meters above sea level, which extends from the Kholzun ridge to the west. Walk around the Third Lake. Lucnh on the way. Return to the Barsuk tourist Camp (7 km), dinner, overnight in tents.
Day 6. Lineisky Poles - Lake Kedrovoye 1845 meters above sea level (7 km).
Breakfast. Hiking: the valley of the Lineisky Poles - the pass between the valleys of the rivers Belaya Uba and Barsuk 1830 meters above sea level - Lake Kedrovoe. After we leave the tourist camp “Barsuk”, we will wade into a small river of the right tributary of the Barsuk river and begin to climb a low pass, which is the watershed between the Belaya Uba and Barsuk rivers. From the pass you can see a fascinating view of the northern part of the tract Lineisky Poles.
On the ridges rise granite whimsical remnants. Lunch on the way. From the pass we descend on the right side of one of the tributaries of the Belaya Uba river on the left side of this river there is a moraine, stone river with a length of 1 kilometer 600 meters, which accompanies us to the point of ascent to Kedrovoye Lake. Soon we cross the ford of several left tributaries of the river Belaya Uba and begin the ascent to the lake. Arrival at the tourist parking at the lake Kedrovoye.
Moraine-Dam Lake Kedrovoye is located on the eastern slope of the Ivanovsky Range, at an altitude of 1845 meters above sea level. Lake Kedrovoye is located on the territory of the West Altai Natural Reserve, in the Ridder district of the East Kazakhstan region. The width of the Kedrovoye Lake is 225 meters, the length of the lake is 309 meters.
The lake is filled with snowfields, which are concentrated on the southern steep slope. Snowfields periodically break away from the boundary of the snow and noisily break down into the lake. The eastern shores of the lake are steep, while the northern and western shores are gently sloping and easily accessible.
With the exception of the southern slope, the rest of the lake is in the thickets of old cedars, some of which are more than 400 years old. The lake is drainless, filtration from the lake is carried out by groundwater. The lake is a local natural attraction. Walk around the lake. Pitch up a tent, dinner and overnight in the tent.
Day 7. Lake Kedrovoye - Lake Shcherbakov (Listvyazhnoye) - Beloubinsky lakes (8 km).
Breakfast. Walk on the lake Shcherbakov 1775 meters above sea level (1.5 km). Lake Shcherbakov is located in the northwestern part of Lake Kedrovoye. In 2002, Listvyazhnoye Lake was renamed Shcherbakov Lake. In honor of the scientist and naturalist Boris Shcherbakov.
This was done by decision of the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the compilation of a map of reserves. Lake Shcherbakov is located on the territory of the Western Altai Reserve, which was created on the initiative of B. Scherbakov. The path to the lake is very picturesque and passes along the northern slope of the Ulbinsky Range. The length of the lake Shcherbakov is 306 meters and the maximum width of 154 meters.
The shores of the lake are steep, inaccessible, and only in the western part of the place where a small river flows into the lake, one can get to the shore of the lake without difficulty. From the south to the lake abuts the steep slopes of the Ulbinsky ridge. From the eastern, northern and western sides of the lake is in the coniferous framing of trees mainly consisting of cedar. The lake is drainless, filtration from the lake is carried out by groundwater. Return to the tent camp on Lake Kedrovoye (1.5 km). Lunch.
After lunch, walk to the First Beloubinsky Lake, 2,035 meters above sea level (2 km). The width of the lake is 314 meters, the length of the lake is 288 meters. The lake is filled with snowfields, which are concentrated on the southern steep slope. A small river flows out of the northern part of the lake and here, close to each other, there are three small lakes.
The southern slope of the lake is steep and snowy, the banks of the northern, western and eastern parts of the lake are gently sloping with thickets of dwarf birch trees. Walk in vicinities of the First Beloubinsky lake.
A walk to the Second Beloubinsky lake is 2055 meters above sea level (500 meters). The length of the Second Belubinsky lake is 195 meters, width 156 meters. The southern slope of the lake is steep and snowy, the banks of the northern, western and eastern parts of the lake are gently sloping with thickets of dwarf birch trees. The lake is filled with snowfields, which are concentrated on the southern steep slope. Walk in vicinities of the Second Belubinsky lake.
A walk to the Third Beloubinsky lake is 2135 meters above sea level (1 km). From the Third Lake we leave to the Second Lake and along a steep slope we begin the ascent to the terrace of the Third Belousinsky Lake. The length of the lake is 278 meters, the greatest width is 184 meters.
Moraine Third Belubinsky Lake is located on the eastern slope of the Ivanovsky Range in an intermountain circus with steep and steep slopes. The northern shore of the lake is flatter and more easily accessible. Walk around the lake. Return to Kedrovoye Lake (1.5 km). Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 8. Lake Kedrovoye - First Big Turgusun lake 1870 meters above sea level (valley "Black Uzel" (12 km).
Breakfast. Hiking: Lake Kedrovoye - Plateau Pass, 1955 meters above sea level. From the lake we, with a climb, climb to the pass point, which is the watershed between the basins of the rivers White Uba and Big Turgusun.
From the pass opens a magnificent panorama of the Ivanovsky Ridge and on the granite remnants of the tract Lineisky poles, which are located in the north-east. All along the way, the Vysheivanovsky squirrel mountain is visible 2778 meters above sea level, located in the Ivanovsky Range. Lunch on the way.
Further our way lies to the pass Mezhozerny 2145 meters above sea level. The trail runs along a vast plateau with a slope to the south, we traverse the eastern slope so as not to lose height. Soon we are entering the Mezhozerny Pass, from which there is an unforgettable view of the Black Knot tract, in all directions of the world from the pass panoramas of the Kazakhstan Altai ridges open.
Steep descent from the pass begins to the west, to the valley of the Big Turgusun river, at first we enter a small intermountain ridge covered with coniferous trees. From here, along an old cattle trail, the descent to the Big Turgusun River begins.
We leave to the river, on the left bank there is an old small house built wood of shepherds, from here along the left bank of the river we ascend to the First Great Turgusun lake. The first Big Turgusun Lake is located on an ancient, leveled moraine. The length of the lake is 346 meters, the maximum width of 238 meters.
The Bolshoi Turgusun River flows out of the lake in a wide cascade. In the northeastern part of the lake there is a flat, dry platform suitable for a tent camp. The northwestern shore of the lake is marshy, the southeastern shore is steep in places with heaps of stones. Pitch up a tent, dinner and overnight.
Day 9. The “Black Uzel” valley - a cascade of the Great Turgusun Lakes (5 km).
Breakfast. Hiking: First Big Turgusun Lake - Second Big Turgusun Lake 1980 meters above sea level (1.5 km). The path to the Second Lake lies along the southern and western marshy shores of the First Lake.
Soon we cross over the small left tributary of the Big Turgusun and along the rocky slope consisting of granite debris we ascend to the moraine part of the Second Lake. Walk around the lake. The length of the Second Great Turgusun Lake is 492 meters, width 403 meters.
This is the largest lake on our route. The southwestern and southern parts of the lake are cluttered with ice floes, which, when the wind moves, move across the lake. The northeastern part of the lake is more gentle, hence the Bolshoi Turgusun river flows out of the lake. The rest of the lake with stony, steep shores. In the southern part, above the lake hangs a large glacier from the slopes of the peak Burov. Walk around the lake.
Hiking: Second Great Turgusun Lake - Fourth Great Turgusun Lake 2075 meters above sea level (1 km). From the Second Lake on the left side of the river we find the ascent to the moraine of the Fourth Great Turgusun Lake. The length of the lake is 294 meters, width 203 meters.
The eastern and northeastern shores of the lake are flat. On the south-western slopes of the lake are snowfields. Lake flowing. The Bolshoi Turgusun river flows out of the southeastern part of the lake, which flows into the Third Big Turgun Lake. Walk around the Fourth Lake.
Walk to the Third Great Turgusun Lakes 2075 meters above sea level. This is a small lake, which is located at the same height as the Fourth Lake, the lake is 138 meters long and 47 meters wide. The Bolshoi Turgusun river flows out of the Third Lake, which is divided into two streams that form two waterfalls. The right falls falls cascade at an angle of 75 degrees, the left small falls falls vertically. Lunch on the way.
Return to the First Great Turgusun Lake (2.5 km). Dinner and overnight.
Day 10. First Big Turgusun Lake - a cordon “Palevskaya Razlivanka” (15 km).
Breakfast. Hiking: First Big Turgusun Lake - the valley of the Big Turgusun River - the Mezhozerny Pass - the Sukhoy Log Pass - the Palevskaya Razlivanka river. The path of the lake goes along the left side of the river, we go up to the pass, from here along the left side of the canyon, which is located below, we go to the Sukhoy log pass which begins in the valley of the river Palevskaya Razlivanka.
Lunch on the way. Twice we wade into the small river Palevskaya Razlivanka and soon through a beautiful birch forest we reach the jäger cordon of the West Altai nature reserve Palevsky. Relaxation. 
Transfer to Ridder town (41 km). Arrival in Ridder, check in to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 11. Town Ridder - Ust-Kamenogorsk (120 km).
Breakfast. Transfer: Ridder - Ulba village - Cheremshanka village (41 km). Stop in the village of Cheremshanka. The village is located in the Glubokovsky district of the East Kazakhstan region, and is the
dministrative center of the Cheremshansky rural district. The Cheremshanka River, a right tributary of the Ulba River, flows through the village. Founded in 1799 in the Ridder volost of the Zmeinogorsk district by
he Old Believers.
In the central part of the village there is a local, exotic bazaar where you can see taiga gifts and purchase birch whisks for a bath, medicinal herbs, pine nuts, salted mushrooms, including legendary local milk mushrooms, jam from various wild berries, medicinal tinctures - panctocrine and others. Also at the market you can buy local souvenirs products made from birch bark and wood.
Further transfer: Cheremshanka village - Ust-Kamenogorsk (105 km). Arrival in Ust-Kamenogorsk, transfer to hotel, accommodation, walk around the city, overnight.
Day 12. Ust-Kamenogorsk - Almaty.
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Flight: Ust-Kamenogorsk - Almaty (2 hours). Arrival in Almaty. Meeting at the airport, transfer to hotel, accommodation, free time, overnight.
Day 13. Almaty.
