“Nature is an infinite sphere whose center is everywhere”

Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Flight by helicopter to lake Merzbacher from Karkara valley.

Lake Mertsbakhera is located at an altitude of 3321 meters above sea level, located in the western part of the Northern Inylchek glacier between the Saryjaz ranges in the north and Tangri Tau in the south in the Ak-Suu district (Kirgh. Ak-Suu district) of the Issyk-Kul region.
Lake Mertsbacher is located from the headwaters of the North Inylchek glacier from the Marble Wall peak to the south, 33 kilometers and 7 kilometers to the northeast from the confluence of the North Inylchek with the South Inylchek glacier.
The lake occupies the mouth of the valley between the end of the North Inylchek glacier and the edge of the South Inylchek glacier. The length of the lake is about 2.5 kilometers, the width is about 1 kilometer (14.10.2020), the area of the water surface is 2.3 square kilometers (2005).
The absolute height of the water's edge at a maximum level of 3304 meters above sea level, depth 60 - 70 meters. The lake arose as a result of the reduction of the North Inylchek glacier and its separation from the South Inylchek.
The mode of the lake level is peculiar. Every year in autumn, water breakthrough occurs, and catastrophically quickly, within 7 - 10 days. The water completely disappears, then a new cycle of filling begins. During the years of intense glacier melting, water breakthrough can occur twice a year: in late summer and late autumn.
During the breakthrough of the lake, the discharge of the Inylchek River increases to 700 cubic meters per second with an average long-term value of up to 30 cubic meters per second. This is a catastrophic waste of water.
Subsequently, the South Inylchek river flows into the Sarydzhaz river, which in turn flows into the Aksu river. The Aksu River flows into China.
