Cathedral mosque.

Tours on medieval city of Mestoriana.

"...greatness of the world and belief, protection of Islam and devout, God's shadow in the worlds, the sultan Muhammad, the son of the sultan Tekesh..."

Portal inscription fragments.

The medieval city of Mestoriana which was a part of the system of the state Horezmshakhov was one of the large trade and craft centers of Turkmenistan. The only monument of this historical period are the remains of the cathedral mosque.
Two poles of the portal of the main room of the mosque and the minaret rising now by height to 20 m remained. The mosque had the rectangular yard with the pool surrounded with an arcade over which the 18-meter portal towered.
In the main building of the mosque from which there were two poles there is a square hall with a dome covering. The minaret, as well as portal foundations, is executed from the burned brick on alabaster solution.
Damaged, it nevertheless kept a considerable part of the conical surface which is laid out by pair spoons in chessboard order. In photos of the end of the 19th century the top part of a minaret with a brick ornament and a kufichesky inscription is still visible.
The portal foundations which are carefully laid out by bricks allow to recreate the general dimensions of a construction with a lancet high arch on three-quarter columns with figured kanitel. The portal inscription fragments read by A. A. Semenov and M. E. Masson supply with the important information on time of construction and names.
After the Koranic text in an inscription it is reported: "... greatness of the world and belief, protection of Islam and devout, God's shadow in the worlds, the sultan Muhammad, the son of the sultan Tekesh...". Besides the governor of Khwarezm sultan Muhammad (1200 - 1220).
The names of builders of the mosque and ibn Mahomed's minaret-Abu-l-Hussein of An NAC and Mahomed of ibn are told it is scarlet - Hussein of An NAC. Obviously, all other structures of mongol Mestoriana were destroyed by riots subsequently.
