On a northeast part of the Tupkaragan plateau there are many big and small canyons and gorges. One of them the gorge to Kumakape winding in the massif of the plateau throughout 11 km. Through this gorge it is possible to arrive from the settlement of Tauchik to the sea coast.
Not always this way can be convenient. Road here steppe and not simple, sometimes even tiresome. On a bottom of the gorge the salty river flows, it is sometimes lost in stone dams or thickets of the tamarisk, the bush which is growing on sol soils and which is beautifully blossoming in the spring, for it he was nicknamed a steppe lilac.
In the winter in hard frosts, the river is dammed by ice therefore its level increases. During the hot periods it dries up. In the gorge go strong floods after pouring rains. Violent water flows wash away the blazed road, even changes the bed of the river.
Locals tell that in 1919 under a rocky landslide the settlement died. The gorge to Kumakape does not cause delight, it unusual the abrupt turns and change of scenery. At the summer nights hordes of mosquitoes haunt here.
The gorge allows to get quickly from a continental part of the peninsula to the sea coast. The coast in this part of the sea is not convenient for bathing. It is very small. It is necessary to pass one hundred meters that there was an opportunity to float.
At departure from the gorge in the northern direction you will be waited by a surprise. Around the world stone megalytic constructions show to mystery and an inaccessibility of knowledge. Such mysterious constructions are around a well of Shytsha which is in the mouth of the gorge to Kumakape.
On five sites located along the seashore with a total area more than 5 hectares plates were lifted huge, sometimes more than 2 m long. Established at an angle, they look as chaotic heaps. Archaeological studying on this monument it was not made therefore yet it is impossible to tell anything about the exact time of emergence and purpose of this complex.
It is clear, that ancient inhabitants of Mangystau made incredible efforts for construction of this construction, having left thereby memory of themselves.
