Historical monuments of Kazakhstan.
The monument-stele to Nauryzbay batyr is located on Mount Kozybasy at an altitude of 1132 meters above sea level in the Bas Batyr mountains, 4.2 kilometers north-west of the village of Degeres, 5.6 kilometers to the east and slightly north of the village of Beriktas, 8, 2 kilometers southwest of the Targap village in the Zhambyl region in the southwest of the Almaty region.
Nauryzbay-batyr (Kaz. Nauryzbay Құtymbetuly, 1706 - 1781) - one of the Kazakh generals from the Shapyrashty clan, which is part of the Senior Zhuz. He fought against the Dzungarian invaders in the 18th century.
He was one of the three standard-bearers of Abylai Khan (along with Kabanbai and Bogenbai). Was born in 1706 on the territory of the present Zhambyl region. When the Dzungars attacked the Kazakh lands, Nauryzbay was 17 years old.
From an early age, together with his brothers, he participated in migrations, relocations and in various campaigns. Having gone through the difficulties of the war, Nauryzbay became a prominent personality. He was tall and large in build. Noticing this, his father raised two foals.
Over time, they served the batyr for 18 years. In 1729, Nauryzbay commanded the troops of the Shapyrashtins in the Anyrakai battle, where the Kazakhs managed to defeat the Dzungar troops. In this war he lost all his brothers.
After a short time, Shamal Khan and his commander Kaskelen began to prepare a new attack. Kazybek batyr from the Shapyrashty clan, decides to put one of his batyrs against Kaskelen and Shamal-khan. Whoever fought them was supposed to become the commander of the troops of the Senior Zhuz. As a result, Nauryzbay is chosen.
He gathers all his army and goes to the enemies. Upon learning of this, Shamal fielded his best warriors: Kangyr, Dombail, and Boraldai. But most of all, he harbors hope for Kaskelen, as he grew up among the Kazakhs and knew their weaknesses well.
During the battle, Nauryzbai punches Kaskelen through with his spear and wins. After that, Nauryzbay-batyr, having become famous as a great commander, receives the name of Shapyrashty Nauryzbay and becomes the commander of the tumen.
In the fall, they start fighting again. In the first fight, the batyrs Mambet, Shoibek, Senkibay defeated Mandabar, Kangyr and Dombail. And Nauryzbai himself defeats Shamal Khan. From that moment on, the place where the battle took place was called the Maidan.
These battles were the first battles in the life of a batyr. Later, Nauryzbay, up to 70 years old, took part in battles. He was one of the main ones until the Kazakh lands were completely freed from the Dzungar conquerors.
From 1748 to 1753, together with Malay, Kaskary and Malaysary-batyrs, he liberated the lands on the territory of Zhetysu and East Kazakhstan. After the war, he was engaged in the placement of Kazakh families in the liberated territories.
He was a wise ruler in peacetime, thanks to which he enjoyed authority among the people. Ambassador of the Russian Empire Karl Miller, who was sent to negotiate with Galdan Tseren, wrote down one moment in the life of the batyr in his diary.
In September 1742, Karl Miller arrived in the aul of batyr Otemis with a group headed by Yeraly (son of Abulkhair Khan) and the Dzungarian envoys Burun and Kashka. On September 16, the ambassador, together with this group, stopped in the village of Nauryzbay.
Nauryzbay decided to find out more about Miller, where he came from, who accompanies him and for what purpose he arrived in their region. Miller was sent to Orenburg to take from General Neplyuev a letter to Galdan Tseren, which contained a text warning about the cessation of hostilities against the Kazakhs.
Nauryzbay asked for a letter from Miller in order to find out the contents of the letter, but Miller refused the batyr, since the letter was sealed.
Then the batyr answered: "Believe your word or the letter of your ruler? An unconfirmed word, like an unread letter, can you really believe?"
Nauryzbay was killed in a battle against the Kyrgyz manaps, who was headed by Ormon-Khan. He was buried in the Almaty region, on Mount Kozybasy. In 2003, a memorial stone was erected there. The descendants of Nauryzbay now live in the Ili, Zhambyl, and Kaskelen districts of the Almaty blast.
