Alpine station for study of cosmic rays of Institute of High Energy Physics of Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, located on Zhasalykozen pass at an altitude of 3336.8 m. a. s. l., is located in main branch of Big Almaty spur on northern slope of Zailiyskiy Alatau in Bostandyk district of Almaty.
The high-altitude scientific station of cosmic rays was created in 1957. Since 1961, work has been carried out to register particles of cosmic radiation. Since 2008, the Tien-Shan high-mountain scientific station of the Russian Institute of Physics named after Pyotr Nikolaevich Lebedev has been engaged in scientific work here.
There are also branches of scientific institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan: the Physico-Technical Institute, the Institute of the Ionosphere, the laboratory of the Institute of Geography, the laboratory of "Kazhydromet".
