The moraine, flowing lake Karkuldek is located at an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level, located in the upper reaches of the western tributary of the river of the same name, on the southern slope of the Dzungarian Alatau ridge in the Eskeldin district of the Almaty region.
The area of Lake Karkuldek is 20981 meters square, the perimeter of the lake is 653 meters. The length of the lake from southeast to northwest is 235 meters, the width in the central part of the lake is 120 meters. On the southwestern slope from the lake there is a small glacier with a length of only 60 meters.
The area of the glacier is 4098 square meters, the perimeter is 252 meters. The southern shore of the lake is in close contact with the northern part of the glacier. The lake is located in a glacial cirque, which is closed by a moraine in the upper part; this is an amphitheater-shaped basin that closes the upper end of the glacial valley.
Almost from all sides, for 2 kilometers, the lake is surrounded by a rocky ridge and only in the south, in the lower part, towards the runoff, is open space. 545 meters northeast of Lake Karkuldek, behind a rocky ridge, is North Karkuldek Lake, located at an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level.
665 meters southwest of Lake Karkuldek is Lake Sredny Karkuldek, located at an altitude of 3453 meters above sea level. 1500 meters south of Lake Karkuldek is Lake Lower Karkuldek at an altitude of 3352 meters above sea level.
South Karkuldek Lake is located 2.7 kilometers southeast of Karkuldek Lake, located at an altitude of 3137 meters above sea level.
