Torgai land has always been famous for creatively gifted people. Nurkhan Akhmetbekov is one of them. Born in 1903 in the village of Zharkeshu, Dzhangeldy district, Kostanay region - composer, singer, dombra player, poet-improviser, people's akyn of the Kazakh SSR (1963).
Participated in regional and republican aitys. The most famous aityses are with Sat Yesenbaev and Maitash Smagulova. Dastany Akhmetbekov - "Esim Seri" (1929), "Karga" (1938) about real events in the Turgai steppe.
The heroic life of the national hero Amangeldy Imanov, who led the liberation uprising in Turgai (1916) - the courage and bravery of the Kazakh batyr is sung in the dastan "Amangeldy". For the dastan "Zhasauyl kyrgyny" Akhmetbekov was awarded the State Prize of Kazakhstan (1951, 1963?).
The dastan “Kulandam” (1934) tells about a terrible famine in the Kazakh steppes in 1932-1933. The author of dastans based on the oriental tales "A Thousand and One Nights" - "Kamarly Zaman", "Alban Zhupar Khanym" (1939 - 1940), kuev, "June Tolkyny". In the works "Amangeldy", "Battle of Urpek" he described the national liberation uprising led by A. Imanov in 1916.
In 1952, he was awarded the Republican literary prize named after Abay. Nurkhan Akhmetbekov is the initiator of the creation and head of the First Regional Interdistrict Theater. The initiator of the creation and head of the first regional inter-district theater.
In 1945 - 1950 director of the museum Amangeldy Imanovav in the village of Torgai. From 1951 to 1955 - Chairman of the Torgai aul council. He began to compose and write poetry from a young age. His poems, ballads on historical themes, devoted to such well-known values as friendship, love for the native land, gained fame.
No less famous Nurkhan Akhmetbekov brought his participation in aitys. In 1943, an akyn from Torgai was recognized as the winner of the first republican aitys. Nurkhan Akhmetbekov died on October 16, 1964 in the village of Torgai.
The grave of Nurkhan Akhmetbekov is located in the north-west of the village of Torgai. A secondary school, a district house of culture and a street in the village of Torgai are named after Nurkhan Akhmetbekov.
