Tagay Biy Stone in Barskoon Gorge.
Kyrgyz Khanate.
"Unity, cohesion. Happiness in it without harmony, you will lose even the golden throne."
Kyrgyz folk wisdom.
Kyrgyz historical legends.
Tagay biy Stone is located at an altitude of 2334 meters above sea level, is located on left bank of Barskoon River, in middle part of gorge of same name, 221 meters to south, a little east of monument to Yuri Gagarin, on northern slope of Terskey Ala-Too ridge, in Jety-Oguz district of Issyk-Kul region.
211 meters above the monument to Yuri Gagarin there is a huge stone, surrounded by a small metal fence - which is popularly called "Tagay Biy". Some historical narratives indicate that in the vicinity of the gorge in the 16th century there was the headquarters of Tagai-biy (Muhammad Kyrgyz), one of the founders of the Kyrgyz statehood.
In 2011, through the efforts of the local community, a metal fence and a plaque were installed around the stone: "Tagai Biy Babazdyn. Yyyk Tashi. 1469 - 1533". At the end of the 15th - beginning of the 16th centuries, the state union of the Timurid people in the Tien-Shan finally disintegrated.
In the second half of the XVth century, favorable political conditions were created for the further consolidation of the Tian-Shan Kyrgyz. In the last quarter of the XVth century, the Kyrgyz Khanate was formed in the Tien-Shan, headed by Muhammad-Kirghiz (he died after 1533). He is the same person known in Kyrgyz historical legends under the name Tagai-biy.
He waged a persistent struggle with the Mongol khans for independence. From the end of the XVth - beginning of the 16th centuries, the Kyrgyz feudal lords entered the broad political arena in the Tien-Shan after displacing most of the Mongol feudal lords from here to Kashgar.
