“Cry, Islam! Wickedness your theologians.
Perverted your foundations, fornicators.
Those who disagree are cursed and cursed.
They exalt their lies to the heavens.
To whom do we hope now, tell?
How do we clear the faith of malice and lies? ”
Abu al-Atahiya.
Observing excursion tour to Djuma mosque in Bukhara.
This magnificent four-pillared building was the winter garden of the rulers of Bukhara. Djuma mosque was built around the eighteenth century by order of Umar-Khan. It is supported by ninety-eight columns- eighty-eight on the exterior and ten interior.
It is said the columns were made from whole elm trees imported from India. Today the columns are referred to by local people as "stone trees". The Djami Mosque has a minaret that stands twenty-two meters high, and at one time served as the central clock tower of Bukhara.
