The glaciological research station of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Tuyuksu-T-1 Glacier” is located on the moraine of the Tuyuk-Su glacier, in the upper reaches of the Maloalmatinsky gorge, on the northern slope of the Zailiysky Alatau, in the system of the Northern Tien-Shan, in the Medeu district of the Almaty region on altitude from 3445 meters above sea level.
Glacial station of Institute of geography "Glacier of Tuyuk-Su-T1" is founded in 1956. It is the oldest glacial station in the world. When after the Great Patriotic War the Soviet glaciologists built the lodges almost on a glacier, nobody could assume that five decades later ice will recede on several hundreds of meters.
The glacier of Tuyuk-Su is included into the world list of observations of fluctuations of glaciers. Now it is the only thing in Central Asia a glacier on which observations after the termination USSR continue.
The hospital of the glacial station is located in Zailiysky of Ala-Tau in collecting area Small Almaty, on a moraine of a glacier of Tuyuk-Su, at the height of 3400 m above sea level.
On a meteorological station of Tuyuk-Su average annual temperature minus 6,4 degrees, in January - minus 15,5 degrees, in July - plus 2,8 degrees. The sum of positive average monthly temperatures of the summer period - 6,5 degrees. Frosts reach 40 degrees.
