The territory of West Altai Nature Reserve joins in the West Altai province, are subdivided into vegetable zones:deciduous wood, taiga, dark coniferous taiga, Alpine and subalpine meadows, mountain tundra.
The floristic richness of West Altai Nature Reserve demonstrates that it plays a significant role in preservation of biological diversity of the Kazakhstan Altai.
The West Altai Nature Reserve has a significant role in preservation of fund of the rare, being under the threat of disappearance species of plants. In special protection 82 look or 10,35% of all flora of the reserve concern to group of persons in need, from them 25 types are brought in "Red List" of Kazakhstan.
Group of relicts in flora of the reserve are presented by more than 70 types, various on age, an origin, the geographical and ecological territory. The group of endemics and subendimic Altai - the Sayany province makes 10,8% of a floristic variety of the reserve, i.e. 86 views from 57 childbirth and 28 families.
So far in flora of the reserve 804 views from 339 childbirth and 84 families are revealed. On taxonomical structure flora of West Altai Nature Reserve has the following indicators: ferns - 26, naked seeds, an ephedra (Ephedra) - 1, covered with seeds - 758, including a lily.
On a percentage ratio of types in the largest 10 families, flora of the reserve represents typical flora of moderate regions of Golarktiki and endemics and subendimic of types from which a wheatgrass of ubinskiya, lineyskiya are known only from the territory of the reserve.
In borders of the reserve 14 species of plants with the security status are registered. In total, 82 species of plants or 10,2% of all flora of the reserve concern to group of persons in need in special protection (Kotukhov, Ivashchenko, Lyman, 2002).

The forests consist mostly of birches and aspens, and the undergrowth is notable for bird cherry trees, mountain ash, and viburnums. The grass cover is very thick and includes key species such as the Siberian cow-parsnip, angelica, peony, larkspur, wolf, and dandelion. 
The mountain taiga zone varies greatly in its forests: dark taiga, cedar and fir, and coniferous forests. It is represented by such species as the annual ground-pine, wolfsbane, Siberian clematis, adonis, Kuriles tea, European wood strawberry, raspberry-cane, speedwell, valerian, Siberian adder's-tongue, and grains. C
edar-fir forests, consisting of the Siberian pine and silver fir, are rich in various species of grassy plants. The subalpine and alpine meadows of the State Nature Reserve are situated at 1800 - 2000 meters. The main species of subalpine plants are as follows, Altai globe-flower, Asiatic globe-flower, hellebore, and white flower geranium. 
The mountain tundra zone is located above 2000 meters of elevation; tundra consists of patches of various plant species which are spread about in spots and stripes. In some places, they alternate with the pure clay soil sections.
