Sanazar-ata necropolis.
Study tours of the necropolises of Mangistau.
“The remains of the flourishing Mangyshlak era have been preserved in the rather frequent ruins of stone fortifications, buildings, grave monuments and deep wells lined with ashlar”
Historian Pavel Stepanovich Savelyev.
Journey to the Western Chink of Ustyurt in Kazakhstan.
The generic necropolis of Sanazar-ata is located on a hill in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau region in the northern part of the Tupbkaragan peninsula, 28 kilometers northeast of the city of Fort Shevchenko. The necropolis, in which burials of the XVII - XX centuries are located, occupies half a hectare.
At the entrance to the necropolis is an old mosque, which is a fence of stone slabs with a stone mound that crowns a pole. This is the grave of St. Sanazar-ata. Walking through the territory of the necropolis, I recall the words of the historian of the last century P.S. Savelyev, who wrote with amazement that:
“On the dead Mangyshlak land, where only stones can live, traces of high culture have been preserved:“ The remains of the flowering Mangyshlak era were preserved in quite frequent the ruins of stone fortifications, buildings, grave monuments and deep wells lined with ashlar."
