The Republican Puppet Theater has been operating since 1938. It was created in 1935, with two troupes of Kazakh and Russian. Located in a club institution in Verny, the former Public Assembly (presumably 1910, the author is unknown).
A monument of history and culture, entered in the register in 1979.  In the Soviet years, the building was used to hold city meetings and rallies, theater and circus performances (since 1919, the Trotsky Party Club, then the Soviet Theater; since 1935 - the National Philharmonic; since 1960 - the association "Kazakhconcert").
Here, on February 5, 1921, at a party conference, a decision was made to rename the city of Vera into Alma-Ata (now Almaty). During the reconstruction of the building, the plaques were lost Each year, the Puppet Theater gives more than 300 performances, which are attended by over 25,000 spectators.
The theater’s repertoire includes 40 performances that are played on tablet dolls (earlier, riding, cane). The basis of the repertoire is a fairy tale and a legend - folk and literary, oriental and foreign. Nowadays, there are performances of “Kanbak Shal”, “Atameken”, “Aladdin's Magic Lamp”, “The Holiday Continues”, “Targamaydy Toyymyz”, “Three Little Pigs”, “Ush Torai”, “Ali Baba and Forty Thieves”, “Ali Baba Zhine қырық қарақшы”, “Visiting a fairy tale: Turnip, Masha and the Bear, Teremok”, “Keruen-Dala”, “Champion Jozh”, “Big adventures of a little frog” are very popular among the audience because they touch upon the themes of good, heroism, justice, friendship and ethical issues of our time.
The first directors of the puppet shows “Aldar-Kose” and “Otegen Batyr” were the leading actors of the Kazakh Drama Theater K. Batyrov, S. Telgaraev; who completed special courses of puppeteers, A. Fedorchenko, A. Ancharov and invited master puppeteers D. Lipman and O. Tarasova.
Composers such as L. Khamidi and B. Erzakovich worked on the musical design of the first performances. During the Patriotic War, theater artists were part of the front concert brigades. After the war - a tour to Vietnam and Kampuchea, a laureate of festivals in Tashkent (1979, 1989), Frunze (1975).

Slonov, B. Parmanov, K. Eshmuratova, N. Tregubenko, Sh. Kadyrov, T. Mayskaya, S. Shukurov and S. Stationary performances are held every Saturday and Sunday.
The performances start at 11:00 (in Kazakh), at 12:30 (in Russian). Outreach performances in kindergartens and schools are held from Tuesday to Friday. The day off is Monday.
