“How good it is to do nothing and then rest!”

Sairan (Kaz. Sairan) - a reservoir in Alma-Ate on the Bolshaya Almatinka River. It was created on the site of a former quarry for the extraction of sand gravel materials using a dam located under Tole Bi Street. It is limited by the streets of Varlamov (on the east side), Sadovnikov (on the west), as well as Tole bi (on the north side) and Abay Avenue (on the south).
The volume is 2.3 million m³, cf. depth 12.1 m max. - 18 m. The Sairan Dam was built in 1971 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of V. I. Lenin, widely celebrated in the USSR. The shores of Sairan were thoroughly landscaped, beaches and boat stations were organized.
In 1988 - 1989 they continued to improve the lake: they carried out new and asphalted old alleys along its entire circumference, along which night lighting was also installed. In the most picturesque places of Sairan they put gazebos for rest and arranged playgrounds.
Sairan in warm weather performs the function of a mudflow trap; in the cold season, the pond is anhydrous. Since the mid-2000s, during the winter seasons, the Maslov Cup jeep festival has been held at the bottom of the pond.
Currently, in view of the new landscaping and turning it into a recreation park, entry to the territory by any motor vehicle is closed. Professional rallies, as well as amateur congresses of jeepers every Thursday in Sairan, thus stopped. In 2010, Sairan was not filled due to the threat of mudflow. In 2014, Sairan was also not filled due to the reconstruction of the Bolshaya Almatinka riverbed.
On June 1, 2006, the highest fountain in the CIS was launched on Lake Sairan - a stream of water with a diameter of 10 cm reached a 50-meter height. The fountain lasted only a year. At the end of November 2012, the Town Planning Council of Almaty considered the outline designs for the construction of the Sairan Lake recreation park.
Akim Akhmetzhan Yesimov supported the idea of creating an oceanarium on the lake. The mayor spoke about these plans during a conversation about the development of Lake Sairan at a reporting meeting with the population in the Palace of the Republic on February 8.
It was assumed that the oceanarium will be located on the eastern shore in an area of 0.6 hectares. However, A. Yesimov did not specify the timing of the project. Perhaps, he said, the aquarium will appear in 2012 or 2013. Today it is known that the akimat abandoned the idea of an aquarium on Sairan.
However, the planned large-scale improvement of the lake continues. Since 2012, work has been going on to clean the bottom of the lake and put in order its shores, as well as the construction of special recreation areas.
n general, the presented investment project for the construction of the Sairan Lake leisure park north of Abay Avenue and south of Tole Bi Street includes areas of beach and water activities, outdoor activities, a sports area, a water park, playgrounds and attractions, piers and ponds , an observation deck, a concert mall, a shopping and entertainment complex and more.
It was assumed that the residents of Almaty and guests of the city would be able to spend their leisure time in the recreation park not only in summer but also in winter. The implementation of the project for the construction of the Sairan park zone was divided into 4 periods: short-term, medium-term, long-term and long-term development.
Having considered the conceptual design, the Almaty City Planning Council recommended that it be finalized and take into account the landscape and terrain features of Lake Sairan, as well as changing some development zones.
To date, investors have already carried out work on cleaning the bottom of the lake, 6 km of park roads have been repaired, and a section of the coast with gabions has been strengthened. The forces of the city administration are reconstructing the bed of the Big Almaty, flowing through Sairan.
Near the pond, its channel is reinforced again with reinforced concrete structures, decorated with granite slabs and for a safe walk, a spectacular waterfall is enclosed by a massive forged fence along which the Big Almaty River flows downstream from under the bridge of Abay Avenue.
