Bust of М. Frunze in Almaty.

Monuments of revolutionaries in Almaty.

"The plot of this story suggests that the death of M.V. Frunze served as the impetus and material for writing it. I personally knew Frunze very little, barely acquainted with him, having seen him only twice. I don't know the actual details of his death - and they are not particularly important to me, as the purpose of my story was in no way to report on the death of the People's Commissar of War. I find it necessary to convey all this to the reader, so that they won't look for genuine facts and real people."

A trip from Atyrau to Almaty.

A monument to the legendary Civil War hero and military leader Mikhail Vasilyevich Frunze (1885–1925) was erected in Sosnovy Square on Kalinin Street (now Kabanbay Batyr Street) in 1967. The Frunze monument was erected in the pine park adjacent to the city's Palace of Schoolchildren.
In 2006, the Palace building was demolished, and on October 17, 2009, the premium-class Rixos Almaty Hotel, located on Seifullin Avenue, was built in its place. The hotel was built on the site of the previously demolished Palace of Schoolchildren.
The hotel complex includes a 9-12-story building, 237-262 rooms, a business center, and a conference hall. The bust is currently located in the Auezovsky District recreation park behind the Saryarka movie theater. The bronze bust, based on a model by sculptor A.A. Isaev, is mounted on a gray granite pedestal (designed by architect I.I. Belotserkovsky) of complex configuration.
On the pedestal's facade is the inscription "M.V. Frunze." The total height of the monument is 4.5 meters. The monument consisted of a bronze bust of the commander on a high, complex gray granite pedestal. In March 2007, it was dismantled as part of landscaping.
Currently, the monument is located in the park behind the Saryarka movie theater (Microdistrict 4, Auezovsky District), which has become a gathering place for Soviet-era monuments. The site where the Frunze monument once stood now serves as the central entrance to the park.
Other monuments have now been erected in Karagaily Park itself, including a monument to the Kazakh poet Turmagambet Iztleuov.
