Mountain travel on glaciers of Northern Tien-Shan.
The Black Glacier is located between the Sapozhnikov glaciers in the west and Gorodetsky glaciers in the east, in the upper reaches of the Bolshealmatinsky gorge, in the eastern part of the Ozerny pass, on the northern slope of the Zailiysky Alatau ridge, on the territory of the Ile-Alatau natural park, in the Bostandyk region of the city of Almaty.
Located at an altitude of 4269.6 to 3409 meters above sea level, belongs to the Kaskelen River Basin. Named after the dark color of its moraine deposits as the discoverer V.D.Gorodetsky in 1916. This glacier can be classified as short valleys that occur in valleys.
The area of the glacier reaches 3.59 square kilometers. From it, firn fields account for 1.93 square kilometers, 0.61 square kilometers to the open part of the glacier, and 1.05 square kilometers to the buried. The positive difference of glaciation is 311 meters, the negative is 169 meters.
Glacial coefficient 3.2. The moraine deposits of the Cherny glacier are formed mainly by dark-colored schists.
