The moraine, flowing lake Middle Karkuldek is located at an altitude of 3453 meters above sea level, is located in the upper reaches of the western tributary of the river of the same name, on the southern slope of the Dzhungar Alatau ridge in the Eskeldin district of the Almaty region.
The area of Lake Middle Karkuldek is 24122 square meters, the perimeter of the lake is 753 meters. The length of the lake from southeast to northwest is 322 meters, the largest width in the eastern part of the lake is 106 meters.
In the western part of the lake there is a fairly extensive glacier with a length of 800 meters in the northwestern part. The area of the glacier is 0.3 square kilometers, the perimeter is 3.92 kilometers. The western shore of the lake is in close contact with the northern part of the glacier.
The lake is located in a glacial cirque, which is closed by a moraine in the upper part; this is an amphitheater-shaped basin that closes the upper end of the glacial valley. Almost from all sides the lake is surrounded by a rocky ridge and only in the south, in the lower part, towards the runoff is open space.
A river flows out from the southeastern part of the lake, which after 1.4 kilometers from the left side flows into the river flowing from the North Karkuldek and Karkuldek lakes. 650 meters northeast of the Middle Karkuldek Lake, there is the Karkuldek Lake located at an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level.
1.2 kilometers northeast of the Middle Karkuldek Lake is the North Karkuldek Lake, located at an altitude of 3336 meters above sea level. 1150 meters southeast of the Sredny Karkuldek Lake is the Lower Karkuldek Lake at an altitude of 3352 meters above sea level.
2550 meters southeast of the Middle Karkuldek lake is the South Karkuldek lake, located at an altitude of 3137 meters above sea level.
