Excursion to Auezov House-Museum in Almaty.

Mukhtar Auezov House Museum is located at an altitude of 861 meters above sea level, located at 185 Tulebayev Street, in square of Abay, Nazarbayev, Kurmangazy and Tulebava streets, in Medeu district of Almaty.
In 1949, Mukhtar Auezov received the Stalin Prize, with the funds of which he bought a plot of land from two teachers. In 1951, Mukhtar Auezov built a house on this plot.
The architect of the building was Georgy Gerasimov. In this building, the writer and his family lived the last years of his life (1951 - 1961). At the same time, in 1952, Auezov was forced to leave Alma-Ata and his house to avoid possible arrest.
He was able to return to the capital of the Kazakh SSR only in 1954 after Stalin's death. On June 27, 1961, the great Kazakh writer, laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes, a major scientist and public figure Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov passed away.
According to the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR No. 10 of August 15, 1961 on perpetuating the memory of Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov, a decision was made to open his museum. On November 28, 1963, the literary and memorial House-Museum of M.O. Auezov opened its doors to its first visitors.
In this house on M. Tulebayev Street, 185, M.O. Auezov lived his last ten years of life from 1951 to 1961. The museum building was reconstructed in 1995-1997 according to the project of the architect S. Mataybekov. The reconstruction was connected with the necessity to expand the museum exposition.
In 1997, for the hundredth birthday of M. Auezov, a new location was opened in the extension, which is located in the yard. A new exhibition hall appeared, where there are historical photographs and books. There are also other artifacts that were used by Mukhtar Auezov during his lifetime.
The exposition dedicated to the life and work of Auezov is presented in 11 halls of the museum. This house and the richest fund, which became the basis of the exposition and includes the manuscript heritage and personal library, were donated to the Institute of Literature and Art by the writer's wife, Valentina Nikolaevna Auezova.
The first exposition of the museum existed for 10 years until 1973. The author is the artist N.P. Alexandrov. The exposition was located only on the first floor of the house. The only memorial room was then the study of Mukhtar Omarkhanovich.
In 1973, a new exhibition was created (the author of the project is the artist J. Nimitz), which attracted the attention of museum visitors for twenty years. The exhibition also included the second floor of the house. The second memorial room was opened - a bedroom, and then a corner of the interior of the dining room.
To expand the second exhibition, additional premises were built, taking into account the interests of scientific staff and technical workers, as well as a cinema hall. Over the years of its existence, the museum has become one of the largest centers of Kazakhstan and world culture.
The memorial values of the "Auezov House" - manuscripts, archival materials, photographs, negatives, exhibits, personal belongings, epistolary heritage, film and video, audio materials are the national heritage of Kazakhstan and serve as a symbol of the spiritual culture of the nation.
The museum exposition contains excellent examples of fine and applied art. Among them are the works of the People's Artist of the USSR E. Vuchetich, portraits of M. Auezov by the People's Artists of Kazakhstan A. Kasteev, K. Telzhanov, S. Mambeev, N. Nurmukhamedov, graphic illustrations for the novel "The Path of Abai" by E. Sidorkin, as well as sketches of costumes and scenery for the plays of M. Auezov by famous artists G. Ismailova, A. Nenashev and E. Charnomsky.
The writer's daughter Leyla Mukhtarovna Auezova (1929 - 1993) headed all the main work on the creation of the museum, which she led for 30 years until the last days of her life. Under the leadership of L.M. Auezova, the museum staff published a large number of books on the study of the creative heritage of M.O. Auezov.
She made a huge contribution to the study, collection and publication of numerous works of M.O. Auezov. "Auezov House" has a completely original status, which distinguishes it from other museums and cultural institutions. It is part of the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art. Its employees, in addition to extensive cultural and educational work, are actively engaged in scientific research.
Over 20 years of independence, it has become the only memorial scientific and cultural center for Auezov studies. From 1964 to 2000, the People's University of Kazakh Literature and Art actively functioned at the House-Museum. Under the leadership of its rector, the famous scientist Rakhmankul Berdibayev (scientific secretary T. Akimov), more than 500 classes were held.
Here, prominent scientists, cultural figures, venerable writers Alkey Margulan, Gabit Musrepov, Gabiden Mustafin, Ilyas Yesenberlin, Abdizhamil Nurpeisov, Serik Kirabayev, Zeinolla Kabdolov, Erkegali Rakhmadiev and many others gave lectures and shared their thoughts.
During the classes, discussions were held on the development of the Kazakh language, the study of ancient heritage, the revival of half-forgotten musical, literary folklore traditions of the Kazakh people. In 1997, a new museum exposition was prepared and opened for the 100th anniversary of M.O. Auezov (author - artist Berdaly Kusherbayev).
1997 was declared, by decision of UNESCO, the year of Mukhtar Auezov and was included in the list of world memorable dates. In connection with the upcoming centenary of the writer, in 1994 the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted a resolution on renaming the museum into the Scientific and Cultural Center "Auezov House" and carrying out restoration and construction work.
Complex and painstaking work continued for four years. As a result, a complete reconstruction and restoration of the museum was carried out, additional premises for the archive and unique manuscript fund were built. On September 27, 1997, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev opened the updated museum complex.
Chingiz Aitmatov, David Kugultinov, Polad Bul-Bul oglu and many literary and artistic figures who took part in the anniversary events in honor of the 100th anniversary of M.O. Auezov attended the opening. The main direction of the research work of the department-museum under the leadership of D. Kunayev is the collection, study, publication and promotion of the creative heritage of M.O. Auezov in the relationship between Kazakh and world literature.
"Auezov House" is currently the only memorial scientific and cultural center for Auezov studies. Its employees have been researching the life and work of the writer, collecting and publishing works of art for many years. The encyclopedia "M.O. Auezov" and the complete academic collection of M.O. Auezov's works in 50 volumes (project manager D. Kunayev) were published for the first time.
The new collection of works includes a huge number of archival materials, letters, unknown manuscripts, sketches, notebook entries, reports, speeches of the writer and outstanding public figure at various forums and during numerous discussions.
The texts of lectures, reviews, and reviews are published. Thus, the creative and scientific heritage of M.O. Auezov is presented for the first time in its maximum volume. The building has been protected by the state since 1982 as an architectural and historical monument of national significance.
