Monument to Shafik Chokinovich Chokin (Kazakh: Shapyk Shokiuly Shokin) is located at an altitude of 820 meters above sea level, is located on southwest corner of Dzhambul and Baitursynov streets, 50 meters northwest of house-museum of A. Baitursynov, 155 meters southwest of square named after A. Bayatursynov, in Almalinsky district of Almaty. 
On August 24, 2017, a monument to the outstanding energy scientist Shafik Chokin was unveiled in Almaty. The opening took place in close proximity to the building of the Kazakh Research Institute of Energy named after Sh. Chokin, as part of the "Rukhani Zhangyru" program and was timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of the academician's birth. Shafik Chokin is the founder of energy science in Kazakhstan, the author of about 500 scientific papers devoted to the development of the country's energy sector.
Among his works: "Energy of Kazakhstan", "Scientific Foundations of Energy Supply of Agriculture in Kazakhstan" and "Fuel and Energy Balance of Kazakhstan". In 1996, by decree of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Shafik Chokin was awarded the highest degree of distinction - the title of "Khalyk Kaharmany" (People's Hero).
The monument was erected in front of the building of the institute founded by Chokin himself, symbolizing his contribution to the development of the energy sector of Kazakhstan. The opening of the monument was an important event, emphasizing the recognition of Shafik Chokin's merits in science and his influence on the country's energy policy, which emphasizes his invaluable contribution to the development of the energy sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Before installing the monument to Shafik Chokin, careful preparation was carried out. The Almaty city administration announced an open competition for the best sketch of the monument, giving artists and sculptors the opportunity to present their ideas.
Following the results of the competition, in accordance with the decision of the State Commission on Monuments and Monuments of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the winner was the project developed by sculptors K. Zharylgapov and M. Azmagambetov. It was their work that was approved for implementation as an official monument to the outstanding energy scientist.
