The main distinctive feature of a geological structure of the territory of the Issyk kul region is that the multi-stage oncoming horizontal traffic of blocks of crust was resulted here by the strongest concentration of geological bodies.
On the small square geological structures which in the continuation to the West occupy the huge spaces are concentrated. Many features of geology of area are caused by this circumstance. In the territory of the area rocks of all groups are developed: Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
Since a Pliocene, about 5 million years ago, in the territory Tien-Shan, is observed further strengthening of orogenic processes. Heights of mountain constructions reach those levels when there are "caps" of ice. In intermountain valleys and on slopes of ridges the rainfall connected with mountain lakes, the rivers, glaciers and gravitational from slopes was deposited.
Researches of morphology of ridges, the nature of deformation the Mesozoic - Cainozoic educations, distribution of tension in the centers of earthquakes and stress of rocks showed that tangential compression of crust Tien-Shan in the meridional direction is an immediate cause of orogenic processes.
Ridges and hollows between them represent result of a buckling of crust that is caused by oncoming traffic of blocks of a lithosphere of Kazakhstan from the North and Tarim from the South. The greatest rapprochement of these blocks happens in an extreme east part of the Issyk-Kul region on a meridian of Jengish Chokusu.
This place represents the most high-lifted site of crust where ridges as much as possible approach, and valleys between them are strongly reduced.
