All large rivers and lakes of the Almaty national natural reserve receive the main food from thawing of glaciers which in the reserve there is a lot of.
Only on North side of the ridge of their Zailiysky Ala-Tau there are 113.
The largest of them is located in a river basin Average Talgar - a glacier of Shokalsky, nearly 5 kilometers long. It pulses with frequency in 20 - 24 years.
Language of a glacier cracked on numerous parts of ice and quickly moves down.
On South side of the ridge Zailiysky Ala-Tau, at river Chilik sources, is located powerful mountain knot of a modern freezing where there are 86 glaciers.
The largest of them - Korzhenevsky glacier, long about 12 kilometers and the Bogatyr - more than 8 kilometers long.
