"Cosmonauts' houses" in Kok-Zhaiyk valley.

Rest in Jety-Oguz gorge.

"I don't know if I've proven it to everyone, but I've definitely proven it to myself: we are not chained to this planet."

Cosmonauts in Jety-Oguz gorge.

Kok-Zhaiyk valley is located at an altitude of 22,550 meters above sea level, is located in Jety-Oguz gorge, on left bank of river of same name, 5 kilometers southeast of Jety-Oguz resort, on northern slope of Terskey Ala-Too mountain range in Jety-Oguz district of Issyk-Kul region.
Approximately 1 kilometer northwest of the main clearing in the Kok-Zhaiyk valley at an altitude of 2324 meters above sea level there are 4 houses, which are called "cosmonaut houses". t should be noted that these houses have nothing to do with cosmonauts, since they were built in the early 90s of the last century by local entrepreneurs from the tourism industry, who intended to provide services to tourists.
Cosmonauts trained in the Jety-Oguz gorge from 1973 to 1974 as part of a program that was carried out by the Moscow Institute of Medical and Biological Problems. The Institute developed a set of physical exercises and loads on the body in mid-mountain conditions, that is, an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level.
Such a training complex trained the body and in a short time formed positive physical data of cosmonauts. This method was repeatedly used in the training of space flight participants, was tested and approved as a physical training for cosmonauts and athletes.
During this period, in the early 70s, it was planned to build a complex for training cosmonauts in mid-mountain conditions, but unfortunately this did not happen.
For a long time, cosmonauts trained in the Kok-Zhaiyk valley, among whom were:
Nikolay Nikolaevich Rukavishnikov, who made his first flight from April 23 to 25, 1971 as a space test engineer on the Soyuz-10 spacecraft, the flight lasted 1 day 23 hours 45 minutes 54 seconds,
- Alexey Stanislavovich Eliseev, whose first flight took place on January 15, 1969, Eliseev's second flight took place on October 13, 1969 on the Soyuz-8 spacecraft, Eliseev's third flight as a flight engineer took place on April 22-24, 1971 on the Soyuz-10 spacecraft,
- Valentin Vitalyevich Lebedev, who made a flight in 1973, being a backup, together with P. Klimuk on the Soyuz-13 spacecraft,
- Vladimir Viktorovich Aksenov, who flew from September 15 to 23, 1976, together with cosmonaut V.F. Bykovsky as a flight engineer on the Soyuz-22 spacecraft for 7 days, 21 hours, 52 minutes, 17 seconds.

The cosmonauts lived in a separate 2-story house specially built for them, which was located next to the Jety-Oguz resort; a special vehicle took them to the valley for training. In the 1970s, a geologists' base was located in the Kok-Zhaiyk valley, consisting of a group of temporary wooden houses.
