Rudaki Square is located in the northwestern part of the city of Dushanbe, on the axis between Rudaki Avenue and Omar Khayam Street, south of the Tajik Agrarian University. The main dominant of the square is the sculpture of Abuabdullo Rudaki, the founder of Tajik-Persian poetry, built in 1964.
The authors of the sculptural composition are Azerbaijani sculptors F. Abdurakhmanov and architect M.A. Useinov. In front of the sculpture, there is a pool with a fountain, personifying the eternal life of the beloved poet in the hearts of the Tajik people.
Behind the sculpture of the poet, towards the university, there is a main alley with flower beds. Two wide paths on both sides of the alley limit the sculpture and go to the avenue named after the poet. Behind the sculpture of the poet, in the northern part of the square, a symmetrical monumental building with a wide three-story building of the Tajik Agrarian University (until 1993, the Agricultural Institute) was built.
The setting of the sculpture of Abuabdullo Rudaki and the Agrarian University on a natural elevation allows viewers to view the entire panorama of Rudaki Avenue from here from the square. In turn, the sculpture against the backdrop of the university is clearly visible from the far points of the avenue.
Rudaki Square was designed on the eve of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Abuabdullo Rudaki. In the late 1990s, part of the composition of the square was broken. A high iron fence appeared behind the sculpture, separating the territory of the Tajik Agrarian University from the sculpture and the square.
In 2007, during the discussion of the jury of the international competition for the development of a sketch of the monumental monument to A. Rudak in the city garden of Dushanbe (which is now renamed the park named after Rudaki), the question of transferring the sculpture of A. Rudaki arose several times.
However, according to the general opinion of the jury members, it was decided not to touch the historical monument and keep it on the square of the same name. The area has been reconstructed.
