Alamedin gorge (Kyrgyz name Alamadun) is located between the Ala-Archa rivers in the west and Issyk-Ata in the east, it is located on the northern slope of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too ridge in the Alamudun district of Chui oblast.
Alamedin gorge is located in the highest part of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too ridge. The city of Bishkek is located 12 kilometers north of the beginning of the gorge in the vicinity of the village of Koy-Tash. This is one of the longest gorges from south to north, with a length of about 35 kilometers from the source to the village of Koy-Tash.
Steep rocky and talus slopes, magnificent, dense juniper forest and snow and ice peaks towering over the valley up to 4900 meters above sea level cannot leave indifferent nature lovers. The Alamedin River, 76 kilometers long, flows along the gorge, which originates on the ice slopes of Tuyuktor (Alamedin right and left) in the upper part of the gorge.
Alamedin has 14 large and small tributaries. On the left, eastern slope of the Alamedin gorge on the Atjailoo river, northeast of the Black Mountain, between the Altyn-Ter rivers and the Utrenny stream, there is a waterfall.
The waterfall was formed from the waters of an invisible stream, which originates from the Black Mountain. On the left, eastern slope of the Alamedin gorge, there is Altyntor Lake at an altitude of 2761 meters above sea level.
The length of the lake is 187 meters, the largest width in the southern part is 58 meters. The perimeter of the lake is 425 meters, the area is 7792 square meters. The northern and northeastern shores of the lake are overgrown with juniper, the western shore is steep and rocky.
The eastern shore of the lake is scree. The lake is filled by the Kara-Too (Mayakovsky) and Tributary glaciers located in the northwest of the lake. In the western part of the gorge, in the upper reaches of the Ashutor River, there are three lakes: North Lake Alamedin, South Lake Alamedin and Lower Lake Alamedin.
South Lake Alamedin is located at an altitude of 3151 meters above sea level. The length of the lake from the south-east to the north-west is 122 meters, the greatest width in the southern part is 41 meters. The perimeter of the lake is 280 meters, the area reaches 3161 square meters.
Lake Almedin North is located at an altitude of 3131 meters above sea level. The length of the lake from south-east to north-west is 274 meters, width in the central part is 127 meters. The perimeter of the lake is 628 meters, the area reaches 17967 square meters.
The lower Alamedin Lake is located at an altitude of 3067 meters above sea level. The lake has a rocker-like shape. The length of the Lower Lake is 226 meters, the width in the central part of the lake is 40 meters.
The perimeter of the lake reaches 503 meters, the area is 6441 square meters. 11 kilometers higher from the village of Koy-Tash, on the right bank of the Alamedin River, there is the "Teply Klyuchi" sanatorium located at an altitude of 1761 meters above sea level.
On the territory of Kyrgyzstan, in the mountains of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too, there is the only radon source. On the territory of the sanatorium there is the Alamudun mineral water deposit. A 507-meter well brought to the surface of the earth thermal mineral water with a temperature of +53 C.
There are also surface radon springs on the territory of the sanatorium. The waters of the thermal springs are healing and are recommended for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, rheumatism, polyarthritis
The gorge is rich in flora, here grow juniper, birch, mountain ash among shrub rose hips, barberry.
