Drive from Kyzylorda to Karaganda region.
The chain of pickets stretched from the south-west to the north-east through the territories of the Kyzylorda and Karaganda regions at a distance of about 400 kilometers. On the topographic map, we managed to find the ruins of pickets from No. 6 to No. 18, the rest of the ruins of the pickets I marked with names in relation to the area, since the map shows only ruins without numbers. It should be noted that in the northwestern part of the ruins, similar to pickets in the southeast, there are much more.
Most likely, the picket chain was built in the late 1920s, during the development of the Zhezkazgan deposits. It was then that the pickets (it is said about 18 ruins of pickets), the purpose of which was to serve the camel and horse caravans that transported timber, equipment and building materials to the Karsakpai mine.
The pickets were erected all the way from the Zhosaly railway station (which was the closest to the field) to the Karsakpay mine. There is information that some of the pickets arose earlier, 15 years before the events described, and the British were erecting pickets for the same purpose, to ensure the operation of the plant at the Karsakpay mine and nearby deposits (in parallel with the construction of a reversible railway that stretched from Zhosaly station to Karsakpaya for three years).
It is believed that the pickets (at least part of them) were built since the middle of the XIXth century, when the Russian Empire was actively engaged in the development of the Kazakh steppes. In those days, pickets were islands of life in the steppes, difficult for orientation and survival.
Adequate supplies of water and fodder were stored here, wells functioned nearby. The pickets were used to transport mail, control the territory, and guard caravans. This question remains open for study, since the ruins of the pickets are not historical monuments, are not studied and are not protected by the state.
