The Karazhartas burial ground is located on the territory of the Taldinsky rural district, on a hill 167 meters from the right (eastern) bank of the Taldy River, 13 kilometers northeast of the village of Taldy, 20.8 kilometers northwest of the village of Akbauyr and 32, 5 kilometers southwest of the village of Kyzyltu in the Shetsky district of the Karaganda region.
The Karazhartas burial ground, one of the megalithic monuments of the Begazy-Dandybaev culture of the Late Bronze Age. Research work on the monument was carried out in 2016 - 2017 by candidate of historical sciences, archaeologist Igor Alekseevich Kukushkin from the Saryarka Archaeological Institute Research Institute at Karaganda State University named after E. A. Buketov.
The Karazhartas burial ground contains 41 buildings from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. In 2016 - 2017, a pyramidal-step mausoleum measuring 14 x 14.5 meters was examined at the monument, with the burial of a member of the tribal nobility of the Begazy-Dandybaev society.
Experts suggest that the monument is related to the Scytho-Saka culture. The monument was given the name Begazin or Saryarka pyramid, since in time it belongs to the Begazy-Dandybaev culture, the Late Bronze Age and the period of the Late Andronovo culture.
The Andronovo culture is characterized by the agricultural and pastoral nature of the economy, and the Begazy-Dandybaevskaya culture that replaced it is characterized by a nomadic one. The pyramid was erected to bury the leader of a powerful local tribe.
Several similar pyramids were found in the valley of the Talda River. Artistic works of the Begazy-Dandybaev period were found in the pyramids, which, according to scientists, reveal historical continuity with the art of medieval Turkic tribes and carry common features of steppe culture and traces of traditional Turkic religious beliefs.
The grave structure has about 5 - 6 walls constructed with masonry. In addition to the elite burial complex, excavations covered 12 more structures of lower social status. According to radiocarbon dating carried out at the CHRONO laboratory of Queen's University, Belfast (Northern Ireland), it was found that the burial ground functioned during the XVth - XIVth centuries. BC e.
The examined mausoleum is the largest and structurally complex structure of the Late Bronze Age in Central Kazakhstan. 2.6 kilometers west of the Karazhartas burial ground, at the Tabyldy necropolis, a mound was excavated in 2018 with the burial of two horses imitating a chariot team. The horses lay on their sides, with their backs to each other.
In 2017, archaeologists completed the reconstruction of the ancient “Saryarka Pyramid”, which was discovered in the steppes near Karaganda. “All summer, an expedition led by I. A. Kukushkin prepared the site for reconstruction, and in the fall, a group of specialists led by the candidate of historical sciences, the famous archaeologist A. Z. Beisenov, completed this project.
Now a new unique monument has appeared on the tourist map of the country - the Begazy mausoleum - Dandybayev leader! Excavations of this monument will continue, we wish new amazing finds to Karaganda archaeologists,” said Viktor Novozhenov.
