Dev Kesken earthwork.
Take trip to Karakalpakstan.
“In the XIV century, the famous Arab traveler Ibn Batuta on the road from Kyat to Bukhara, i.e. just on the territory of southern Karakalpakia, I have not met a single village, while in the left-bank Khorezm, especially in Urgench and its surroundings, in the days of Ibn Batuta, life was still in full swing."
From the report of the expedition 1937 - 1945. Tolstov S.P. “In the footsteps of the ancient Khorezm civilization".
Independent travel across Karakalpakstan.
Dev Kesken earthwork is located in the southeastern part of the Ustyurt plateau along the line of which the state border between the Republics of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan passes, 90 kilometers northeast of Lake Sarykamysh, in the southeastern part of Gross Karabaur, 117.2 kilometers to the south - east of the Barsakelmes saline land, 78 kilometers south-west of the city of Kungrad in the Kungrad region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The Dev Kesken earthworkl crosses the southeastern protrusion of the Ustyurt plateau, in one of the narrowest places from chink to chink, for a length of 2669 meters. Built of stone, the preserved height is from 0.60 to 1.50 meters, width is 1.40 meters.
At the two ends of the shaft there are forts round in plan. The western fort with an area of about 0.20 hectares has been excavated, which is encircled by double walls made of square raw bricks. The entrance is protected by a gateway labyrinth. Inside it is a building with 14 rooms, also with double walls with a stone gallery.
The thickness of the outer wall is 2.40 meters, the inner wall is 1.10 meters, and the width of the corridor is 2.40 meters. The Earthwork Dev kesken complex also includes, possibly, a religious building (object III) and a separate house (object IV).
Archaeological material makes it possible to assume that Val Devkesken is a border fortification that existed in the IVth - IIIrd centuries.
