The Sapozhnikov glacier is located in the upper reaches of the Kashka-Suu river, on the southern slope of the Zailiyskiy Alatau ridge, on the territory of the Chon-Kemin natural park, in the Kemin district of the Chui region.
The Sapozhnikov Glacier is located in the right half of the extended head of the river valley and has a southern exposure. In the same right half of the valley, there are three more glaciers. One of them is a small tar. The second, apparently, belongs to the type of gorge glaciers.
The third merges with the Sapozhnikov glacier. The northern border of the glacier runs along the ridge of the Zailiyskiy Alatau ridge from the Legostaev peak located in the western part of the glacier at an altitude of 4387.2 meters above sea level.
To the east, the heights are in the following sequence: 4269.6, 4321.1, 4329 meters above sea level. The southern border of the glacier descends to an altitude of 3722 meters above sea level. One of the main channels of the Kashka-Suu river is formed from the eastern branch of the Saozhnikov glacier.
The perimeter of the main Sapozhnikov glacier is 8606 meters, with an area of 1.96 square kilometers. To the east of the main Sapozhnikov glacier there is a small branch of the glacier with a perimeter of 5226 meters and an area of 0.79 square kilometers.
The total area of the Sapozhnikov glacier is 2.75 square kilometers (10.2021). In the north, the Sapozhnikov glacier borders on the Black and Gorodetsky glaciers. In the northwestern part with the Sapozhnikov Severny glacier, located in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In the northeast, the glacier adjoins the Dmitriev glacier. In the southeast of the Sapozhnikov glacier is the Mashkovtsev glacier. The glacier is named after V.V. Sapozhnikov (1861 - 1924) - a botanist and geographer, traveler.
