Short trip around Dushanbe.
Former building that housed one of the first cinemas in the city - the Maxim Gorky Cinema is located on Rudaki Avenue and the corner of Bukhoro Street, 195 meters southeast of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.
The building that once housed one of the city's first cinemas, the Gorky Cinema, celebrated its 80th anniversary this year. Despite its considerable age, the structure is in no way inferior to modern ones and looks quite dignified and attractive.
The author of the project of this building was Petr Ivanovich Vaulin (1882 - 1945). At the beginning of the 20th century, while still in Tsarist Russia, he graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineers (IGI).
One of the best architects of Leningrad worked after the revolution in Leningrad Giprogor. In 1929, he was sent to Soviet Tajikistan to create the first draft plan for the city of Stalinabad. 1938 In Stalinabad on the avenue.

In the early 1950s, a statue of V. I. Lenin was erected in front of the cinema. The photo shows the most ordinary summer day on June 14, 1953, the year of the death of I.V. Stalin, after whom our city was named. 1956 A small area in front of the cinema called "Pyatak" was extremely popular with the youth of that generation. In the evenings, with rare exceptions, a certain contingent of young people gathered here.
First of all, these were the so-called "dudes". Here they demonstrated to each other the then-fashionable “cook” hairstyle, colored shirts, long jackets and thick-soled shoes. Obviously copied Elvis Presley. Homemade plates made from X-rays were also sold here. It was a place where people met and spent time.
1958, in the foyer of the cinema. At that time, a simple visit to the cinema was considered a very significant cultural event in the life of every Soviet family. It looked like a cinema in the early 60s of the last century.
The monument to V.I. Lenin had already been dismantled by that time. It is believed that this was done because of the so-called informal youth that often gather at this place. In the mid-60s, the building of the Gorky Cinema was given to the State Philharmonic Society, and the cinema itself moved to another location.
This is what the building looked like in the mid-2000s.
2013. The building of the former cinema now houses the state television channel Safina (TVS).
