Description of Labak-Konuspay mausoleum.
One of the best examples of the 19th century in Central Kazakhstan. The Konuspay-Labak Mausoleum was built in 1874. On the necropolis where the Labak-Konuspay mazar is located, there is a dilapidated Kishkentay mausoleum (XVIIIth century), covered with a carpet pattern.
The Labak Mausoleum is a portal-domed structure with dimensions of 7.25 × 8.25 meters in plan and 6.45 meters in height. The mausoleum was built of adobe bricks, faced with baked bricks inside and out, the dome is lined with square baked bricks.
It is decorated with a frieze and a belt on the main facade made of slabs with a primitive ornament. The height of the base is 50 cm. The entrance opening is oriented to the southwest. On the gable wall of the portal niche there are two square bricks with an inscription in Arabic letters and an ornament made with plant paints.
The epigraphy is poorly preserved (not deciphered). The northern, western and eastern facades are decorated with figured brickwork - "herringbone". The entrance opening is lancet-shaped. The transition from a square plan to a circle of the dome is realized by means of the device of corner niches.
Similar niches are arranged in the centers of the walls in the interior. The volume of the monument, eight niches in the interior, as well as the niche of the entrance opening slightly expand downwards. The arches of the niches and the entrance opening have semicircular outlines.
The peshtak is decorated with a frieze and a U-shaped belt filled with square tiles with a simple ornament. The cornice is decorated with decorative masonry from a double diagonally folded row of bricks, laid in teeth. The other three facades are similar to the portal frieze, as well as a decorative texture from the masonry in a "herringbone".
The dome is framed by two rows of bricks protruding at the corners. In 1982, the Labak mausoleum was included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of the Kazakh SSR of republican significance and taken under state protection.
