The K. Baiseitova Opera and Ballet Theater opened in 2000 in Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. In connection with the announcement of 2000 as the Year of supporting culture, as well as for the purpose of socio-cultural development of the capital and perpetuating the memory of the outstanding Kazakh singer Kulyash Baiseitova, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 5, 2000, the Astana Opera and Ballet Theater was given the status of "National".
The team of the K. Baiseitova National Opera and Ballet Theater was composed of young talented graduates of the Almaty Conservatory named after Kurmangazy, Kazakh National Academy of Music, Almaty Choreographic School named after A.V. Selezneva.
Highly qualified specialists were invited to the theater: H. Kalilambekova - People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan; K. Omarbaev - Professor, Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Ballet specialists V.A. Goncharov and N.L. Goncharova - Honored Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, tutors of ballet performances.
Total working in the theater - 438 people. Of these: a symphony orchestra - 90 people, the main conductor of the opera and symphony orchestra - A. Mukhitdinov, Master of York University; choir - 60 people, chief choirmaster - E. Dautov, graduate of the Kurmangazy Conservatory, graduate student of the Academy of Music of Astana; ballet artists - 52 people, the main choreographer - T. Nurkaliev.
Leading soloists of the ballet troupe: G. Kurmangozhaeva - diploma winner of the International Competition, R. Asanov, A. Spataev, M. Usenova, G. Begalina, R. Seitbekov, A. Kulbekov - laureate of the International Competition, A. Kusainova, N. Korshunov, A .Mukasheva, teacher - tutor. Soloists of the opera - 19 people. Artistic - management team - 22 people.
On the occasion of the opening of the 1st theater season from October 14 to October 22, 2000, the International Festival of Opera and Ballet Art was held. Famous artists of Kazakhstan and Russia were invited to stage the theater.
The first theater season opened on October 14, 2000 with M. Tulebaev’s opera Birzhan - Sarah. The theater’s team also staged the plays Swan Lake by P. Tchaikovsky and La Traviata by Verdi. On February 3, 2-14, the "National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Kulyash Baiseitova" in Astana was closed.
Artists of the K. Baiseitova Opera and Ballet Theater went through a competition to work in the new Astana Opera.
