Building of Agrarian University in Almaty.
Historical buildings of Almaty.
“The town of Verny, where we arrived on May 11, is located on a fairly flat area, slightly sloping to the north, about 4-5 miles from the steep slopes of the Zailiysky Alatau at an altitude of 784 meters above sea level. The first thing that catches the eye is the abundance of greenery; in the center of the city there is a dense park, and all the streets are lined with alleys of pyramidal poplars, between the tops of which you can see the sharp Almaty peak in the southwest, the rounded, but more powerful Talgar in the southeast and other snowy peaks of the ridge. Not far away you can see the blue gorge of Malaya Almatinka, which approaches the southeastern end of the city, abundantly supplying it with water, running along all the streets in narrow ditches under the poplars. In addition to street plantings, between which Kolpakovsky Avenue extends, almost every house has private gardens with apple trees, apricots, white acacia, lilacs, etc. "

History of buildings of Agrarian University in Almaty.
The main building of the university was built in two stages - in 1934 and 1954. In 1934, the left wing was built according to the design of the architect N. Petrov, and in 1954, the central part and the right wing of the building were completed according to the design of V. Biryukov.
In architectural terms, the building consists of three parts and is built in the classical style with elements of national decor. In front of the central three-story risalit is the portico of the main entrance. In its piers there are multifaceted paired and single semi-columns with ornamental capitals and developed bases.
The arches of the "eastern type" have a complex-profile ornamented archivolt. The developed cornice has two tiers of figured brackets. The central and corner zones of the parapet are blind. An arched balustrade is placed between them. In the center, above the parapet, there is a two-figure sculptural composition with a coat of arms.
The doors behind the portico have a wide ornamented platband. Two-tier stained glass windows repeat the contour of the arches. The windows of the risalit outside the portico are rectangular with simple platbands. The two-part interfloor belt is placed at the level of the third floor window sill.
The main volume of the building is two-story with a basement that goes into the basement. The walls of the basement have large rustication. Three-column portico-loggias with square fluted columns and a simple slab capital are made at the corners.
The columns are crowned with a multi-tiered developed entablature. Similar columns and pilasters are used in the loggias and framing of the stained-glass windows of the vestibules. The windows of the main and side facades have complex-profile platbands.
On the courtyard facade, the windows are made without platbands. In its central part, the cornice is broken in the form of a semi-pediment, and pseudo-pilasters with an ornamental cartouche of the capital are made in the piers of the windows.
In the early 2000s, a large-scale reconstruction of the main building of the university was carried out with the preservation of the main elements of the facade design. On November 10, 2010, a new State List of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Local Significance in Almaty was approved, and all previous decisions on this matter were simultaneously declared invalid.
This Resolution retained the status of a monument of local significance for the main building. The boundaries of the protected zones were approved in 2014.
Building of Surgical Clinic of Zooveterinary Institute.
The building of the Zooveterinary Institute was built in 1954 according to the design of V. Biryukov, with V. Lukhanov serving as the engineer. It is an example of the "national style" in the architecture of the 1950s in Almaty. The complex of buildings of the Institute includes educational and laboratory buildings, a dormitory and outbuildings.
The two-story building of the main building is a rectangular volume flanked by semicircular projections with a high attic. The main entrance is located along the main axis of the building and is designed as a portal. The plane of the facade is dissected by blades.
Along the perimeter of the central volume of the building there is a parapet decorated with battlements and corner turrets. The cornice is ornamented with a stylized stalactite belt. The foundation of the building consists of concrete blocks. The masonry is brick, the walls are plastered and whitewashed. The floors are reinforced concrete.
On November 10, 2010, a new State List of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Local Significance of the City of Almaty was approved, in which the status of an architectural monument of the building of the Surgical Clinic of the Zooveterinary Institute was preserved.
