Tourists Glacier in Zailiysky Alatau.
The Tourist Glacier is located at an altitude in the ridge from 4378.8 to 4522 meters above sea level to an altitude of 3453 meters above sea level, located in the upper reaches of the Turistov River, on the northeastern slope of the peaks of the Soviet climbers and SSU (Sverdlovsk State University) in the Maloalmatinsky spur, on the northern slope of the Zailiyskiy Alatau ridge, on the territory of the Ile-Alatau natural park in the Medeu district of the city of Almaty.
The Glacier of Tourists was first visited in 1936 by V. G. Gorbunov, who gave it a name. The Glacier of Tourists occupies the northern slope of the lateral spur, extending from the Molodoy Guard massif (Bolshealmatinsky spur) to the east, deep into the left Talgar basin.
At this spur, the peak of SSU (Sverdlovsk State University) stands out at a height of 4522 meters above sea level. Glacier refers to the type of stratified glacier slopes. It starts on average from an altitude of 4378.8 meters above sea level and ends with the open part of the tongue at an altitude of 3560 meters above sea level, and the buried - at an altitude of 3400 meters above sea level.
Its exposure is first northern, then northeastern and finally eastern. The glacier is 4 kilometers long along the firn field - 0.6 kilometers, 2.2 kilometers along the open part of the glacier and 1.2 kilometers along the buried part.
The area of the firn field is 2.7 square kilometers, the open glacier with side moraines is 4.0 square kilometers, the buried part is 1.0 square kilometers, a total of 7.4 square kilometers. The positive difference of glaciation is 314 meters, the negative is 346 meters. Glacial coefficient is about 0.7.
