“God created temples among everyday life,
To pacify the earthly darkness,
And he created the mountains so that people
Don’t forget the way to Him"

Khazret Sultan Mosque is located at an altitude of 352 meters above sea level, located on Tauelsizdik Avenue, 48 between A. Baitursynov and R. Koshkarbaev streets, north of Independence Square, on the right bank of the Ishim River in Astana.
One of the most modern attractions of Astana, the young capital of Kazakhstan, is the Khazret Sultan Cathedral Mosque. This largest mosque in Central Asia took 3 years to build and was inaugurated in July 2012.
The colossal building resembles an oriental palace, and more than 1,500 builders and craftsmen took part in its construction, who jointly created the most beautiful architectural monument of Astana. The name "Hazret Sultan" is translated as "Holy Sultan".
The mosque was named after one of the Sufi sheikhs - Khoja Ahmed Yassawi (XII century), who was a poet, philosopher and Muslim saint, known throughout Central Asia. The saint's mausoleum is located in the Kazakh town of Turkestan.
Hazret Sultan, as one of the largest mosques in Asia, covers an area of 11 hectares and can accommodate up to 10,000 people. At the same time, the area of the mosque premises is 17.8 hectares and includes prayer halls, a wedding hall, rooms for reading the Koran and conducting lessons for seminarians, as well as a dressing room and ablution room.
Thus, this mosque is fully functional and meets all modern requirements. The dome of the mosque is 51 meters high and its diameter is 28 meters. There are eight small domes around the main dome, and four 77-meter minarets rise at the corners of the mosque.
The building of the Khazret Sultan Mosque was built in a classic oriental style, and the main color of the facade and interior is white. The central hall is supported by massive white columns, which enhance the sense of monumentality of this structure.
The facade and interior decoration are replete with traditional Kazakh ornaments. Inside, on the walls of the mosque you can read the names of 25 prophets who are mentioned in the Holy Scriptures of the Muslim Ummah.
The appearance of the mosque is no less impressive: massive, richly decorated walls, domes, pilasters, decorative belts, and many arched openings. Many parishioners compare this building with an oriental palace, where, among other things, you can see unique things.
In particular, a 3-ton giant chandelier, a silver Koran, made at the Moscow Mint from 999 silver and consisting of 162 cast pages and, let’s not forget, the Koran of the XIIth century, one of the oldest in the world, which was brought to Kazakhstan in XIV century Amir Temirlan. It weighs 40 kilograms and is the original manuscript.
In general, the artistic image of the mosque reflects the traditional view of the Kazakh people, so skillfully executed by craftsmen. We can say that the Khazret Sultan Mosque is a new work of architectural art in Kazakhstan and a diamond in the panorama of Astana.
On January 15, 2012, a fire occurred in the mosque. Since July 2012, Khazret Sultan has taken a leading place among the attractions of Astana, the main mosque of which was previously the Nur-Astana Mosque.
