Madrasah Kalzhan Akhun is located in the Syrdarya district of the Kyzylorda region, 11.2 kilometers to the west, just north of the regional center of the Syrdarya district, Terenozek, and 13.2 kilometers to the east of the district center Zhalagash district, the village of Zhalagash. Built at the end of the 19th century.

Kalzhan Akhun Madrasah is one-storey, has a traditional layout, square in plan with a wide courtyard, the main facade is oriented to the north-west. The building consists of twenty rooms-hujras and 7 additional rooms.

The plan is 44 x 44 meters. The walls are made of fired bricks and the cornices are finished with ceramic tiles, which gives the architectural appearance of the building a special look. All premises are located around the perimeter. There was a well in the center of the courtyard. The premises located at the entrance are built of baked bricks measuring 27 x 13.5 x 7 cm, on a lime-sand mortar.

The entire base and upper cornice of the roof is also laid out of baked bricks. The rest of the walls are lined with raw bricks measuring 34 - 31 x 14 x 7.5 cm.

Kalzhan Akhun was known among the people as a poet, educator, and spiritual teacher.

Kalzhan Akhun was born in 1862 in the Khiva Khanate and was educated in theological schools of Khiva and Bukhara.

Kalzhan Akhuna's father, Bolekbai, belonged to the Tabyn family from the Zhamankagyly area in the Aktobe region. In his youth, having found his relatives in Karakalpakstan, he remained there and served at the court of the Khiva Khan, holding a high position.

He died in 1875 at the age of 90, when little Kalzhan was 13 years old. At an early age, Kalzhan, left a complete orphan, experiencing financial difficulties, continued to study. At the age of 27, in 1889, he graduated from the law faculty of the Kukuldash madrasah and received the title of "Akhun", such a title at that time was awarded to people who had not only a legal education, but also had an oratorical talent.

In 1890, Kalzhan Akhun came to the lower reaches of the Syr Darya at the invitation of Kete Shomekey Oraz Imam, with whom he studied at the Bukhara madrasah and remains here forever. He is engaged in educational activities, opens a mosque, teaches children to read and write ordinary Sharua. Later, Kalzhan Akhun built a madrasah at his own expense. The people knew him as a poet, educator, spiritual teacher. On his initiative, a madrasah was built in 1916. In addition to the madrasah, the Kalzhan Akhun mosque and the remains of the mud house in which he lived are located here.

Now in the mosque there are several graves belonging to Kalzhan Akhun himself and his family. The Kalzhan Akhuna mosque-madrasah is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Republican Significance. The Kalzhan Akhuna mosque-madrasah is the object of research of the State Program "Cultural Heritage".
