The moraine, flowing lake Lower Karkuldek is located at an altitude of 3352 meters above sea level, is located in the upper reaches of the western tributary of the river of the same name, on the southern slope of the Dzhungar Alatau ridge in the Eskeldin district of the Almaty region.
The area of ​​the lake Lower Karkuldek is 33200 square meters, the perimeter of the lake is 771 meters. The length of the lake from east to west is 280 meters, the largest width in the eastern part of the lake is 187 meters.
In the western part of the lake there is a small glacier with a length of 800 meters in the northwestern part. The area of ​​the glacier is 189074 square meters, the perimeter is 2418 meters. The western and southern shores of the lake are in close contact with the glacier.
The lake is located in a glacial cirque, which is closed by a moraine in the upper part; this is an amphitheater-shaped basin that closes the upper end of the glacial valley. From almost all sides, the lake is surrounded by a rocky ridge, and only in the east, towards the runoff, is open space.
A river flows out from the eastern part of the lake, which after 600 meters on the right side flows into the river flowing from the lakes Severny, Middle Karkuldek and Karkuldek. 1500 meters north of the Lower Karkuldek Lake, there is the Karkuldek Lake located at an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level.
North Karkuldek Lake is located 1880 meters to the northeast of Lake Lower Karkuldek, located at an altitude of 3336 meters above sea level. 1154 meters northwest of the Lower Karkuldek Lake is the Middle Karkuldek Lake at an altitude of 3453 meters above sea level.
South Karkuldek Lake is located 1424 meters southeast of Lake Lower Karkuldek, located at an altitude of 3137 meters above sea level.
