Historical museum of rice cultivation is located in the village of Zhakhaev, Shieli district, Kyzylorda region. It is a small, but unique and themed museum, which introduces visitors the development of agriculture and rice cultivation of the region. The museum was opened by a Decree of the Ministry of the Kazakh SSR and Order of the Minister of Culture of the Kazakh SSR in 1982.
After opening, the museum named after the famous Kazakh rice farmer, innovator, twice Hero of Socialist Labor and four of the Order of Lenin - Ybrai Zhakhaev. Noble Kazakh rice farmer was born in Shieli district, 1891. He had worked as a team leader on the farm "Kyzyl-Tu" since 1940. Almost all of his life devoted to the cultivation of rice. I. Zhakhaev studied rice growers during 50 years. He was able to get the record for rice to 172 quintals per hectare.
Thus, he set the world record in rice yield. During the Great Patriotic War, his link received 80-90 quintals per harvest from each hectare. The average of rice yield in I. Zhakhaev’s link was 80-92 quintals per one ha of the total 20 hectares area works during 1942-1967 years. I. Zhakhaev got 171 quintals per 1 hectare of rice in 1949. I. Zhakhaev was not just a rice farmer, he also was the inventor of a special method of rice cultivation.
Scientists and farmers of Soviet Union carefully studied I. Zhakhaev’s proposed methods, and afterwards it introduced to other farms. In the 1950s, in spite of his advanced age, he opened a school, where he taught his experience to young rice farmers. The name of the Ibrai Zhakhaev was known not only in his country, but also abroad. He was known in eastern countries, where rice is the national food. Initially, the rice cultivation museum named I.
Zhakhaev occupied a small little room, which situated on the outskirts of the village. The museum reconstructed in 2008, after which received a new, specially renovated premises in the heart of the I. Zhakhaev village. Today, the museum consists of 9724 exhibits, among which few unique things, which personally belonged to I. Zhakhaev. It tells the history of rice cultivation in Kazakhstan. The museum consists of four rooms: The first hall tells the story of farming and rice cultivation in Kazakhstan.
According to archaeologists, rice cultivation in our country began in I-III centuries. The hall exhibits archaeological artifacts and tools of medieval farmers. The second hall is dedicated to the life and work of I. Zhakhaev, here are collected many pictures, documents and personal belongings of a noble rice farmer. A special stand is dedicated to gifts of I. Zhahaev, which he brought from his foreign trips.
The third hall tells the story of I.Zhakhaev village and Shieli district, where visitors can learn about the other rice farmers, most of them were students I. Zhakhaev. The fourth hall is dedicated to the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Hall exhibits Emblem, Banner, Anthem, State banknotes and Shalhi’s minerals, which describe Zhanakorgan hospital sanatorium. The museum expositions are constantly updated through the efforts of managers and employees.
The collection of complementary products of local skilled artisans tells the life and tradition of the Kazakh people.
