Namazga mosque.

Tours to architectural monuments of Samarkand.

“If diversity is a source of wonder, its opposite - the ubiquitous condensation to some blandly amorphous and singulary generic modern culture that takes for granted an impoverished environment - is a source of dismay. There is, indeed, a fire burning over the earth, taking with it plants and animals, cultures, languages, ancient skills and visionary wisdom. Quelling this flame, and re-inventing the poetry of diversity is perhaps the most importent challenge of our times”

Wade Davis.

Excursion to the mosque Namazga in Samarkand.

The ancient mosque of Namazga was located to the north-west from Sheikh-zadeh gates. It was built in the XI – XII centuries and was intended for public praying on Muslim holidays, Kurban and Fitr.
In the XV century, at the time of the Temurids, the mosque was reconstructed. In the XVI - XVII c.c., Namazga mosque, like the other Temurid buildings, had decayed. In the first half f the XVII c., at the time of the Astarkhanids, Nadir-Divan-beghi initiated the construction of a new mosque instead of the old one.
The site for new Namazga mosque was chosen in the southern suburb of Samarkand. The construction was completed in 1630.
