Town of Naryn.

Trip from Naryn to Kyzyl Asker massif.

“I forgot to mention that in the mountains around Naryn I saw yaks for the first time. These animals made a very strange impression: small in stature, but stocky and very strong, with short legs, covered in long hair and thick, horse-like tails, with large heads and widely spaced horns, they looked quite fierce, but in fact they were very gentle and extremely useful animals. In the high mountainous regions they replaced the Kirghiz horses, dairy cows, and pack camels. I met a Kirghiz family, all members of which were riding yaks, while other yaks were loaded with their belongings and dismantled yurts.”

I. S. Vasilchikov. "What I remembered... Memories of Prince Illarion Sergeyevich Vasilchikov." 1908.
