Honored Art Worker of the Kazakh SSR Maria Yegorovna Rykina (pseudonym Mariyam Zhagorkyzy) (1887 - 1950) entered the history of Kazakh music as the author of the touching autobiographical song "Dudaray", which sings about the love of a Russian girl for a Kazakh guy.
Maria was fluent in the Kazakh language, knew Kazakh folk songs well, mastered their national style. Mariyam Zhagorkyzy is famous for being a native of the Russian people, she was able to contribute to the history and culture of the Kazakh people.
Her life for herself became the basis of the song "Dudaray", which gained wide popularity not only in Kazakhstan, but throughout the world. "Dudaray" is one of the few works based on which a poem, opera, ensemble, etc. were created.
Once, at a hayfield, a Russian girl, Maria Rykina, and a Kazakh dzhigit Duysen (Dudar), the son of a poor man, Uysen Okenuly, met. After they met, young Mariam fell in love with the Kazakh horseman Duysen. Maria was an extraordinary person: she learned to speak Kazakh and play the dombra well, she mastered the national style of singing songs.
Not only did customs interfere with the happiness of the young, but the families of the two young people were against such a union. Once, matchmakers from a neighboring village were waiting for Mary. Unable to accept this, Maria runs away to the steppe, where, according to legend, the famous confession song, the lamenting song “Dudaray”, was born - this is how Maria called her Duysen, and nicknamed Dudar because of her curly hair.
And soon the young man goes after her to the steppe, which has become their home. They endured hardships and hardships, lived near the river, found shelter in the coastal reeds. Then the heart of Duisen's parents trembled. The young people were returned home, played a wedding.
