The monument to the prominent Turkish national leader, the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was erected in Astana in 2009 in a park overlooking the Ishim River. The monument is made of bronze, the pedestal is made of granite, the height of the monument without a pedestal is 4.4 meters, weight 5.5 tons.
The surrounding monument is also named after Ataturk. Across the road, Tashenov Street, from the monument is the Turkish Embassy in Kazakhstan. The monument was erected in order to strengthen friendly relations and to continue cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Turkey.
The author of the monument is Bakytzhan Abishev. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is known for having abandoned imperial ambitions and managed to maintain the integrity of the country, making Turkey today a respected and developing state.
