Island Zhumbaktas in Burabay.

Walk by a boat to island Zhumbaktas.
"Where in the gulf does the Sphinx stand enormous
With a mighty and proud head?
Where a hermit once settled
In a dugout at the foot of the mountain,
And to this day, in a cave, the
spirit of the legendary Kenesary is preserved.
You know the land where, at dawn,
A caring Kyrgyz brews in the tursuk
A drink, full of living strength,
Divine nectar - kumys.
You know the land where in the quiet evening
Summer residents wander through the park in crowds,
Oh, dear, wonderful land,
That earthly paradise is called - Borovoe."
Poet Viktor Kapanin.

Zhumbaktas Island - Burabay's Stone Mystery.
Zhumbaktas Island is one of the most recognizable natural symbols of the Burabay resort area, located within the park of the same name. This rocky outcrop, rising 15-20 meters above the lake's surface, attracts attention not only with its unusual shape but also with its rich cultural and mythological content.
Physical and Geographical Characteristics of Zhumbaktas Island.
The stone island of Zhumbaktas is located in Lake Burabay (Borovoe), one of the largest bodies of water in the region. The island itself is a granite rock massif, belonging to the ancient Paleozoic formations of the Kokshetau Upland. Geomorphologically, Zhumbaktas is an outlier formed by long-term denudation processes.
The surrounding softer rocks were eroded by wind, water, and temperature fluctuations, while the harder granite remained, forming an isolated cliff. The island rises approximately 15-20 meters above sea level. Its shape is asymmetrical: from different angles, it appears differently - from a rugged rock cliff to the outline of a human profile.
This is due to the weathering and cracking of the granite rocks. The region's climate is moderately continental, with cold winters and warm summers. Wind and temperature processes continue to slowly reshape the cliff, giving it increasingly bizarre contours.
Landscape and Natural Environment of Zhumbaktas Island.
Zhumbaktas fits harmoniously into the landscape of Burabay, which is often called "Kazakhstan's Switzerland." The lake is surrounded by coniferous forests, primarily pine forests, and granite massifs of bizarre shapes. The lake's water is clear and has a soft bluish-green hue, enhancing the visual impact of the rocky island. In the morning and evening, Zhumbaktas is particularly striking due to the interplay of light and shadow.
Legends and Tales about Zhumbaktas Island.
The name "Zhumbaktas" translates from Kazakh as "mystery stone." Many legends are associated with this place, explaining its unusual shape. According to one of the most famous, a beautiful girl lived in these parts in ancient times. She was captured by enemies, but refused to submit and threw herself into the waters of the lake.
The gods turned her into stone to preserve her beauty. Since then, the island has resembled different images from different angles: one, a young girl, another, a mature woman, and a third, an old woman. Thus, the stone symbolizes the flow of life.
Another legend says that Zhumbaktas is a frozen guardian of the lake, watching over people and changing its appearance depending on their thoughts and mood.
