"Damn it, I'm terribly jealous
of those who find happiness in the mountains.
I used to think I wouldn't show it, and I wouldn't even look at it.
But now I admit: I'm wrong."

Karaulshetau mountain top, 4269.2 m. a. s. l. It is located in algar Mountain Range, in eastern part of Middley Talgar River's upper reaches, 3.8 kilometers west and slightly south of Talgar Peak, 2 kilometers northwest of Aktau Peak, within Almaty Nature Reserve, in Talgar District, Almaty Region.

The Karaulshetau mountain top has snow-and-ice slopes reaching a steepness of 30 to 40 degrees, in some areas up to 60 degrees. These are represented by hanging glaciers mixed with valley glaciers – the Shokalsky, Saltsov, and Kroshka glaciers.
The Middley Talgar River is fed by a glacier located on the western slope of Karaulshetau, directly at the entrance to the gorge. Climbers humorously call this peak, crowned with snow and glaciers, Karaulchik, or Storozhka. On the slope of Karaulchitau, there is a glacier ending in a large glacial cliff. Ice chunks torn from the glacier are mixed with rocks and fine earth, giving it a dirty gray appearance.
Below the glacier, fairly large patches of ice buried under rock debris are often encountered. North of the Karaulshetau summit, 3-4 kilometers away, the gorge is blocked by a huge moraine.
The Karaulshetau summit was conquered by a south-to-east traverse in 1937 under the leadership of Yevgeny Kolokolnikov.
