"It actually became Karakol recently, after the revolution. Before that, it was called Przhevalsk - in honor of the famous traveler and explorer of the nature of Central Asia Przhevalsky, who was buried on the steep bank of Issyk-Kul. A bronze eagle with outstretched wings, standing on a granite rock and trampling the map of Asia, still guards his grave."

Orthodox chapel is located at an altitude of 1647 meters above sea level, in northern part of Przhevalsky and Karasayev Museum and Memorial Complex in eastern part of village of Pristan Przhevalsky, 12 kilometers southwest of city of Karakol, 609 meters from Przhevalsky Bay (Lake Issyk-Kul), 1.5 kilometers from mouth of Karakol River, on territory subordinate to city administration of city of Karakol, Issyk-Kul region.
On the territory of the museum and memorial complex of N.M. Przhevalsky and K. Karasayev, located near the city of Karakol, there is a small chapel, which is an important spiritual and historical site. The chapel was erected in memory of the great traveler Nikolai Przhevalsky, who devoted his life to the study of Central Asia, and became part of the memorial complex.
This place serves as a symbol of memory and respect for his contribution to science. Later, the complex was supplemented with a memorial to Kusein Karasayev, an outstanding linguist and Turkologist, whose grave, monument and museum are also located on the territory of the complex.
The architectural appearance of the chapel is made in the traditional style, with simple but expressive decor, harmoniously fitting into the surrounding natural landscape. It is located near the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, creating an atmosphere of privacy and tranquility.
The chapel is a place where people come to honor the memory of outstanding personalities associated with the history of Kyrgyzstan, and to pay tribute to their work and achievements. In November 1996, His Holiness Patriarch of All Rus' Alexy II visited the N. M. Przhevalsky Museum and Memorial Complex.
During the visit, he consecrated the chapel erected on the territory of the complex. The chapel is architecturally made in the traditional style: it has a square plan and a multi-gable cross roof, but is devoid of domes. Above the entrance on the facade there is an image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker - the patron saint of the great traveler N. M. Przhevalsky.
Today the chapel is a significant place of memory, symbolizing the spiritual connection between generations and respect for the legacy of the outstanding explorer.
