"Monument to Taras Shevchenko in Ashgabat being on the square, near the State Committee building on tourism and sport of Turkmenistan. Is one of the oldest city monuments.
It is established in 1926. During the Ashgabat earthquake of 1948 the monument was destroyed"

On March 24, 1972 in days of carrying out culture of Ukraine in Turkmenistan opening of a new monument to Taras Shevchenko took place (the sculptor - Mikhail Lysenko). In September, 2009 with assistance of Embassy of Ukraine and Hyakimlik Ashkhabad the monument was reconstructed and postponed for new, more convenient place.
