Zharkent Mosque.

Ancient monuments of Almaty of province.

“For everything in this journey of life we are on, there is a right wing and a left wing: for the wing of love there is anger; for the wing of destiny there is fear; for the wing of pain there is healing; for the wing of hurt there is forgiveness; for the wing of pride there is humility; for the wing of giving there is taking; for the wing of tears there is joy; for the wing of rejection there is acceptance; for the wing of judgment there is grace; for the wing of honor there is shame; for the wing of letting go there is the wing of keeping. We can only fly with two wings and two wings can only stay in the air if there is a balance. Two beautiful wings is perfection. There is a generation of people who idealize perfection as the existence of only one of these wings every time. But I see that a bird with one wing is imperfect. An angel with one wing is imperfect. A butterfly with one wing is dead. So this generation of people strive to always cut off the other wing in the hopes of embodying their ideal of perfection, and in doing so, have created a crippled race”

Special attention should be paid to the Zharkent Mosque, a grand construction of the 19th century; the motifs of Central Asian and Chinese architecture are combined in its construction.
Wood, i.e. the Tien-Shan fir logs, the main building material, were sourced from the Aksu and Ketmen Mountains.
Such elements of architecture are used in the building's external appearance, as in "the soaring roof" with the curved up ends, areas around the building with cylindrical columns and cornices.
The mosque was considerably damaged, after the strong earthquake, which occurred in 1911. The restoration was done between 1975 and 1978, the mosque was restored and a museum of the architectural-art complex was established.
It was built under the Merchant Talibai Yuldashev's request by two masters from China, over 100 years ago. The architectural style is classical Chinese, The Museum complex includes the minor mosque, the main.

It serves, as a unique architectural construction, built without a nail and the ceiling cross casement made from the Hi River cane. With its floating roof, the Zharkent Mosque looks more like a pagoda; il combines elements of Chinese and Central Asian architecture in an almost gay manner.
The place of worship, with space for 1,000, the surrounding buildings of the small mosque, the Koran school and the main portal, were made without the benefit of nails, from Tien Shan spruce from the Ketman Mountains.
The mosque was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1911. In 1978. after three years of restoration work, it was reopened as an architecture and art museum. It is still a museum today, but it is expected to be returned to the Muslim community soon.
It is located in the street named after the merchant Yuldashev. Address: 40, Yuldashev St., Zharkent.
