The Ilek River is a left tributary of the Zhayyk River (Ural) originates in elevated areas Poduralsky plateau in the Aktobe region. The length of the river is 623 kilometers, the catchment area is 41.3 thousand kilometers.
The river has a bilateral floodplain, the width in the middle course is from 0.7 to 1 km. The tortuosity coefficient along the length of the river varies slightly and amounts to average 1.5. The banks are steep in places, composed of loam and sandy loam.
Sandy bottom and sandy loamy, in some areas sandy-pebble and loamy, weak in places silted. The average long-term consumption in the city of Aktobe is 20.8 cubic meters. The depth of the river is from 0.8 - 1.0 to 1.0 - 1.8 meters.
The flow rate is 0.3 - 0.5 meters per second. Duty of water vary from 3 to 17 cubic meters per second. The average annual runoff in the upper reaches of the Ilek River is 50 mm. The main tributaries of the Ilek River are Kobda, Karagala, Tamdy, Sazda, Zhinishke.
The Aktobe reservoir with a useful capacity of 220 million m was built on the river. cube intended mainly for irrigation and water supply.
