In the northern part of the mountains at an altitude of 670 meters above sea level is the tract Saksauli. The southern slopes of Ulken-Kalkan descend to the right bank of the Ili River at an altitude of 477.4 meters above sea level.
In the western part of the mountain, they are bordered by the Kysty-Kalkan massif and in the south-west by the Akkum-Kalkan sand massif, which are called Singing Dune. The Ulken-Kalkan mountains are composed of effusive and granitoid deposits of Carboniferous, which are 300 million years old, deposits are mainly represented by volcanics, Permian and Carboniferous deposits, and the most ancient deposits are Silurian.
Most of the rocks of the Kysty-Kalkan mountains are mainly Paleozoic rocks that are 200 to 400 million years old.
